"To speak about God, and remain silent on Vietnam, is blasphemous." Email Print

These are the words of the great rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel.

And it is these words, and this man, that have inspired rabbi Dennis Shulman (D) to challenge conservative extremist Scott Garrett (R) in NJ-5 this 2008.

Like his spiritual forefather, Shulman has concluded that he can no longer speak about God and remain silent on Iraq, as well as many of the other pressing and important issues of our times.

Why your vote counts -- John Conyers as House Judiciary Chair. Email Print

This is directed at anybody who thinks that their vote will not be important in the next election for whatever reason. It doesn't matter whether you are a Green disgusted at what you see as a lack of spine by the Democrats or a former Hackett supporter disgusted at what you see as an insular establishment who determines the candidates for Senate in smoke-filled backrooms. You are missing the key point as to why it is so important that you go to the polls and vote for a Democrat. You forget that a vote for a Democrat for Senate or the House is a vote for John Conyers as chair of the House Judiciary Committee.

Culture of Corruption - House & Senate Ethics revisited Email Print

If you can't trust the Congress, who can you trust.  These are the folks who make our laws, and yet they have such a hard time controlling themselves when the opportunity arises to break those very laws.  They can write laws but not rules and guidelines for themselves.  You do realize that I am refering to the Republicans and their Culture of Corruption.

LIVE Iraq Debate Blogging Email Print

UPDATES BELOW THE FOLD

Turn into CSPAN to watch the House debate on the Hunter Resolution, which is a shameless political trick meant to induce Democrats into voting for immediate withdrawl.

The debate has been heated and contentious.  I'll be live blogging it for those who don't have CSPAN or those who want quick transcripts....(excuse typos in advance)

SCHMIDT:  My remarks were not directed to house members, did intend to suggest they applied to Murtha. Asks for unanimous consent to be withdrawn.

Demcrats objected loudly, but the Speaker said "without objection."  But then the Democratic spokesmen accepted the withdrawl of her comments...

Tell Me: What the most Important Issue Is? Email Print

I am running for Congress in 2006, in Indiana in the 6th District.  I am NOT posting this asking for money or donations.

I want to know what the most important issue is with you.

If we don't ask and listen, we are not representing, we are dictating. I am running to represent, so let me know what matters, and if you cannot limit it to one thing, then list them all.

I can make my assumptions from reading posts, but I want to know how YOU feel.
