Accountability is an old-fashioned word that the truth jugglers of the Cheney-Bush Administration and important elements of the mainstream media have sought to effectively remove from the English language.

The reason why that word accountability is looked upon with such morbid fear along with savage distaste is that if followed by definition the neocons marching under the Cheney-Bush brigade would have been removed from office long ago.  The sun light of accountability would deliver a piercing arrow of permanent destruction to elements of darkness that have endured through perpetuating patterns of lies.

In the New York Times on Friday, May 25, it was reported that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee had accused the Bush Administration "of ignoring preinvasion warnings from the nation's spy agencies that a war in Iraq could be followed by violence and division and that it could strengthen the hands of Al Qaeda and of Iran."

According to the Democratic chairman of the Committee, Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia, "Sadly, the administration's refusal to heed these dire warnings, and worse, to plan for them, has led to tragic consequences for which our nation is paying a terrible price."

Today Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich defied Speaker Nancy Pelosi's "impeachment is off the table" declaration and stated that, as so many of us have been writing and saying, impeachment may be the only way to terminate the Cheney-Bush corrupt and power hungry corporate ruling cabal.

Democrats.com is one of the groups asserting the importance of contacting Kucinich's office and declaring support by urging that he introduce Articles of Impeachment before the House of Representatives.

Kucinich stated:

"This week the House Appropriations committee removed language from the Iraq war funding bill requiring the Administration, under Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the Constitution, to seek permission before it launched an attack against Iran.  Since war with Iran is an option of this Administration and since such war is patently illegal, then impeachment may well be the only remedy which remains to stop a war of aggression against Iran."

Cronyism has been around as long as government, but the Cheney-Bush Administration took this ancient practice well beyond the ranks of anticipated Washington practice.  By the time that everything was narrowed down and the neocon element along with special interest candidates had been chosen there was no room for anyone else.

It was Dick Cheney who, prior to the voter uprising against the Republicans last Tuesday, stated emphatically that his team will continue governing the same way regardless of what happened.  This was synonymous with his comment after the 2000 election decided by a one-vote Supreme Court majority after Bush lost to Al Gore in the popular vote category.  

Bush's talk about holding no grudges and smiling for the cameras during a breakfast with Nancy Pelosi amounted to no more than a head feint.  He hopes to be able to accomplish what Cheney stated he intended to do before the voting, but in order to realize that objective he needs to survive in office.

While Nancy Pelosi has stated that an impeachment action against Bush is "off the table" circumstances along with the forward movement of progressive grassroots movements could remove such a decision from her hands.  Go back three decades to the Watergate period and you will observe that initially impeachment efforts were equated with Don Quixote efforts to assault windmills.
