Progressive Democrat Newsletter Issue 150 Email Print

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. I have try mixing my own rants and ideas, with national issues, news items, and some very local groups and events in an attempt to both help shape debate and to help people find their own ways of getting involved.

This week I highlight Bill O'Reilly's latest insult: denying the existence of some 200,000 homeless Veterans. For my NYC readers I highlight a very important attempt in the City Council to require permits for citizens to use devices that detect harmful materials in the air, water and soil. For my North Carolina readers I highlight a Democratic candidate for Congress, Marshall Adame, who is pissing off the mercenary firm Blackwater. I am urging people to support Marshall Adame for his willingness to challenge Blackwater. And I continue to highlight local events in all the states where I have had a good number of readers. Interestingly, Florida and Texas are joining New York and California as states where I have lots of readers. Progressive Democrat Newsletter Issue 130 Email Print

The Progressive Democrat Newsletter grew out of the frustration of the 2004 election. After much pressure from readers, this email newsletter is now going the blog route. I update the blog once a week focusing on both national issues and issues of interest to particular regions or states. In general, NYC, California, New Jersey, Virginia and the Midwest get special attention simply because those are the areas where I seem to have the most readers. However, these days I am too busy to give each region the attention I used to. As my readership on Daily Gotham and Culture Kitchen goes up, I have to spend more time on those sites. So this newsletter is fading a bit. I hope it is still usefull to you, though.

This week I am focusing once again on Fox News, keeping antibiotics effective and a critical election THIS YEAR in Mississippi. I also present a new feature that started with an unexpectedly recommended Daily Kos diary as well as some local actions for Michigan, NYC and Indiana.

I know some of you know that my husband Barry Welsh is a Congressional Candidate running in Indiana's 6th District and I've been writing about my lessons learned in a political campaign.

We have been looking at how Barry's campaign has been and is going - planning speaking engagements, meet & greets, endorsements, fundraisers, volunteers and it's been really interesting.  The Indiana's 6th District covers 19 counties; relatively the size of New Hampshire and each are unique and essential in their own right.  The people of the district cover a wide spectrum of socio-economical demographics and it's the same expressions of worry, frustration and anger that I see that is bringing the district together.

Just Back From Dean Speech Email Print

A short time ago I arrived back home from a five hour drive to hear Governor Howard Dean.
It was worth the drive.  There were dollars raised for the state party federal account.  There were numerous people there, and a diverse crowd.  It was a good speech, which I have a portion of on audio tape.   I got the opportunity to speak with Governor Dean for just a few moments.  It was above 40 degrees and no snow or ice on the Indiana side of the south Chicago suburbs, a good night.  Oh, and no Loyalty Oath necessary.  Governor Dean even joked about Bush's hand picked crowds
