I wrote this last year right after Al Gore appeared on Capitol Hill to give testimony about the effects of climate change and how the climate crisis is now and will effect this planet. Today is one year since that testomony wherein he explained that the Arctic ice cap should it all go will not come back in any timeframe relevant to the human species. However, I still don't see the urgency that needs to be seen by enough of US to begin doing what we must to mitigate this.

Just the other day, Mr. Gore not only launched The Climate Project-India to continue the worldwide grassroots education many need to inspire action, he also stated in a videoconference that business was leading politicians on this. That is because he is in the private sector spurring on the change that needs to come from the right sectors in order for political will to have that tipping point. Yet, where is the support for all of the work he is now doing on this? How far have we come in one year's time to really stand up for this planet? It is sad to see that my skepticism regarding Congress was true.

Do people understand that there is absolutely no obligation for Al Gore to endorse anyone regardless of the past or any current relationships he may have with any of those running?

Al Gore has arrived in Oslo, Norway, in preparation for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize this coming Monday, December 10, in Oslo City Hall. To me this is more than just a date to collect a prize. This is a date with his destiny and more importantly, the beginning of a new chapter.

This is an absolutely brilliant move on the part of Al Gore. With this move he will now be able to use the Nobel Peace Prize he will receive in a ceremony in Oslo next month to truly seek effective and expedient changes in how the world does business, which will hopefully foster peace.

Now, joining a venture capital firm may not seem like such a move, but when you look into what invesments are made and the motives behind them, in Mr. Gore's case it is indeed to further the truth that leads to action that leads to peace.

It has come to my attention that some people on certain blogs and venues on the Internet do not like the fact that I support Al Gore's endeavors  based on their merits, or that I support him regardless of his politics, and that I haven't jumped on the "run Al run" bandwagon because I respect his words.

British Government released the movie, An Inconvenient Truth, to be shown in schools.

One man, Mr. Dimmock, a school Governor, challenged that in court, making of course, outrageous claims of the movie.

With the Nobel Peace Prize being announced this coming week on October 12, I wanted to send a message to Al Gore, a man I respect immensely and whose name has been mentioned as a frontrunner for the award.

Dear Mr. Gore;

I have always believed that a person who serves their conscience serves well. To me you are an exemplary example of that, and I wanted to thank you again for all of your work on the climate crisis and for giving me more tools to use in my own action plan, because time is of the essence. I personally am shocked to see the speed at which the Arctic ice and glaciers worldwide are melting and I do not see it as a good harbinger of things to come for this planet or for us.

This is a video of an interview Al Gore gave in June 2006, I believe in concert with the Hay Festival. I am posting it now because over a year later this country is still basically in the same place we were then as far as heeding his warnings (except for states like NJ and California and a couple others and cities that appear to be awake to this) and it is now becoming dangerous for us to continue to procrastinate on the whole regarding the warnings of good men like Al Gore and scientists who have seen the hard data.

Yes, say it, Al... but your question as to why young people aren't forming rings around bulldozers is exactly what you wrote about in The Assault On Reason... the politics of fear.

It would appear to me that there are those who are so wrapped up in their "presidential fantasies" that they are missing the greater picture behind what Al Gore is now accomplishing that will have a longterm effect that will last far beyond the next four years. I think it is time to focus on that because when put in context it is truly what great statesmen are made of.

That slow burning fire has been at the heart of Al Gore's endeavors for the last thirty years, and it is now time for the world to feel that moral strength in their own lives in order for us to be able to face the challenge of this generation and the next generation... the climate crisis.

No ultimatums, no foot stomping, no looking for him to word his sentences a certain way in order to know that his heart is firmly set to doing what he has been trying to do for thirty years. This is what he went through the fire to get to. This is the result of him looking into the abyss and seeing his soul and finding his character. And this is what many of us will see when we look into our own abyss if we dare look... The challenge of a lifetime that requires a moral strength unlike anything we have ever seen before. A moral strength that far surpasses the daily political rhetoric, and a moral strength that is sustained like a slow burning fire every day for all our lives because it is kept alive by the search for truth.

To see a global awakening that somehow enlightens the human spirit to see the moral imperative and to act on it. To see people actually giving a damn about their actions in regard to their effect not only on themselves but on the world. To see responsible governments globally that do not utilize resources for war and exacerbating the conditions that bring about war, poverty, disease, and hopelessness, but rather using them to really foster peace, prosperity, equality, and sustainability.

I cannot only imagine how freeing it is for Al Gore to not be constrained by political campaigns, handlers and schedules in his daily life, I can celebrate it because now that he is free of the pretense that goes with it, so am I as a supporter of his.

The petition I have up at Tree Nation is asking people to pledge to become climate messengers in response to Al Gore's movie and book An Inconvenient Truth, and has drawn signatures from around the world of those pledging to do just that. And for every 100 signatures, Tree Nation (which is also sponsored by the UNEP) has planted a tree in Niger in their goal to plant 8 million trees in the shape of a heart.

You don't need anymore polls, anymore political rhetoric, anymore political expectations and being put under the microscope. You don't need anymore of being used as a symbol just to prop others up or to appease political operatives. You don't need anymore bickering over trivial matters like shirt colors and weight gain. What we need however, is you speaking truth to power and inspiring others to join you in this greatest fight of all. That is the mark of a true leader and a legacy worth leaving.
