Finally, Respected Newspaper Calls Abramoff Scandal Largely Republican Email Print

The good news is that a well respected and widely read newspaper has finallllly labeled the Abramoff scandal as largely Republican---not once, but repeatedly and without pussyfooting.

The not-so-good news is that it's the International Herald Tribune, which most Americans don't read.

Perpetuating Corruption: Tom DeLay's Replacements Email Print

Today I read that two Republican Congressmen are competing to replace Tom DeLay as the leader of the House Republicans. One would expect that the Republicans would be eyeing the most squeaky clean of their members to counter the corrupt image their party now has. And yet, one of the top contenders is Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri, one of the most corrupt members of Congress. The other is at best only soft on corruption and at worst, based on the REPUBLICAN view of the Abramoff scandal (not our own), the other, Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, is among the most corrupt Congressmen around. In their blind quest for power, Republicans just don't get it. Americans don't like corruption.

A holiday poem for the Republicans Email Print

This is just a little something I threw together in an openthread over on kos...I figured I'd share it with you good people as well.

Of course, bush will return directly to Crawford as he takes the entire week of Thanksgiving off for vacation (as he has since taking office)...I don't think he ever undersood that four-day weekends aren't meant to be treated as seven day drunks, but to each his own.

I worry that the heat will come off of bush with the holiday break, but there is good news on the horizon...Scanlon's turning state's evidence, and republicans are running scared.  I don't even think bush wants to return to Crawford (where, of course, Cindy Sheehan is waiting to remind him that she's still pissed off about having her son killed in Iraq and wants an answer.

Scanlon starts talking,
Abramoff won't be walking,
Delay's now balking,
And Bush's leaks still need caulking,
GOP tactics are shocking,
But there's been less Chickenhawking,
Though con blogs are still squawking,
and Helen Thomas Scotty's stalking.

Whackos Email Print

The Jack Abramhoff scandal is turning out to be a gold mine, offering a window into the heart of the GOP financial and power structure.

It is revealing what most people who follow politics carefully already knew - how bankrupt, corrupt and deceitful those who wield the power in DC really are.

But I don't want to talk about the financial aspects to this scandal today, I want to draw peoples attention to a different aspect.

Let's begin by looking at a Salon article in the extended.

Judging By The Distance from DeLay's Money Email Print

Hello.  My name is Barry Welsh, and I am going to be the Democratic Challenger to Congressman Mike Pence in Indiana's 6th District. I invite you to www.barrywelsh.org to learn more and to support the effort.  I have issued a public challenge to Congressman Pence in regards to the money he has accepted from Tom DeLay's machine, in a letter to the editor to the 6th district media.  I invite you to read it, as I think this is a unique and hopefully effective approach.

Congressman Pence leads the RSC who has proposed "Operation Offset" cutting the budget in unbelievable areas.  Word is he is trying to position himself behind the scenes to become the next Majority Leader.
