Are we THE TRUTH and nothing but? Email Print

Reading left-wing blogs daily and obsessively, it's hard to find a topic to write my first-ever note without repeating a thousand better-informed, better-articulated articles. Being an emotional person, and being emotionally devastated by the extreme evil  that has hijacked the White House and America, and hence, the rest of us on this planet, I had to ask myself: Why do I feel such righteous, indignant outrage and feel so completely RIGHT and TRUE in my beliefs that close to half the American public are religious, racist, sexist bigotted nutcases that let mass murderers lead them into global death and despair?

I have never been to America yet I have extremely strong and ingrained beliefs about its culture, people and politics. Some of these beliefs I think are true and come partly from the obsessive reading of the American thinking half's outrage against their hijacking. Some beliefs are very likely prejudiced and come from stereotypes most of us from European stock have nurtured since at least the Nixon years. One thing I am wondering the most is how there can be such a HUGE divide in America between the well-informed, decent, well-educated, non-ignorant fighters against the evil empire and the ignorant, bigotted, religious nuts who have lost their moral and ethical compass altogether and sold out to greed and spin as long as the flag is dragged over their eyes and the bible is thumped on their heads...

Pretty much every other country on this planet has a much larger majority of people who can see the havoc and destruction America's greed for global hegemony wreaks, even if those countries are poorer, less educated and more prone to religious stereotypes. Why do so few Americans feel strong enough to inform themselves, stop listening to the lies of their mainstream media and the deceit oozing from every pore of almost every politician, republican AND democrat? Why does it seem so fvcking obvious to you left-wing bloggers and the rest of the world that what you/we se and uncover every single day is an outrage and pure, unadulterated EVIL, yet there are the same amount of right-wing blogs, not to mention the corrupt mainstream journalists and talking heads that throw a spin on every single one of those (in our eyes obvious and undeniable) truths and seem to feel much more righteously appalled by the 'conspiracy theories' of baby-killing, same-sex crazed left wing liberals?

I feel so helpless seeing this - to my eyes impossible - division of what seems so obviously right and true and fair and what is really going on, particularly seeing I am on the losing side of the battle. So I wonder... even though they seem like the rants of the incurably insane, whenever I accidentally stray onto a right-wing blog or comment about daily affairs, are we really that absolutely, infallibly truthful and right in our opinions in comparison? In my heart I feel that I KNOW what is true and morally right, without needing an outdated copper age version of Grimm's fairy tales guiding me, but can it really be that us humans are intrinsically THAT morally divided that the plain, cold truth can so easily be spun to mean the exact opposite?

And also, are the people who refuse to see the truth as we see it, really evilly manipulating it to further their own greed and religious delusions or do they truly, sincerely believe in their heart they are right as much as I do? Maybe it's just me but I am sincerely starting to believe I am losing my grasp on reality being confronted with this dilemma on a daily basis. Priding myself as a realist, being a scientist, being unblemished by any nationalist or religious ideologies, I am coming to the point where I wonder if it's really the world that is going THAT insane or if maybe I am being sucked in by left-wing idealogues and spin-masters? Obviously, I have to go with what my heart, my head and my eyes tell me and count myself to be in the morally righteous but seemingly helpless majority of the ones who see the corruption and greed and evil coming from your country these past 30 years.

How on earth do YOU deal being confronted with it every single day, every time you open a newspaper or turn on the TV or talk to your nice (but unfortunately completely deluded) neighbour? How do you keep your conviction strong and true when confronted by friends, colleagues and sometimes even family members who tell you that you are a nutzoid conspiracy theorist who hates America and wants to kill babies?

After this immensely verbose (I obviously still have to learn to curb my rantings) outburst what I really want to tell you, my obsessively-read American left-wing bloggers is:

THANK YOU for keeping your convictions and seeing the truth and not getting distracted and not getting sucked into right-wing spin politics and lies and for keeping the hope that we can all make a difference. It's all that keeps me from despairing after reading the headlines (and between them) every day. I take my hat off to you all.

b) only cause they put more effort into digging for the truth, and find their ethics within themselves, not from a book or preacher 100%
c) no, cause left-wing blogs are a right-wing conspiracy to create a fictional enemy cause they already have completely taken over the planet 0%

Thanks for posting such a refreshing Journal. I think we are all interested in seeing ourselves in the eyes of the outside world (which, you represent). Your remarks are actually quite comforting. Meanwhile, you ask:

How on earth do YOU deal being confronted with it every single day, every time you open a newspaper or turn on the TV or talk to your nice (but unfortunately completely deluded) neighbour?

My answer, I assure you, is different from everyone else's. I am fully aware that my "deluded" neighbour (by virtue of his laziness, fear, and general lack of critical thinking) will, in fact, control my destiny with his vote. Therefore, I have decided to leave.

I am giving up my US citizenship, in fact, and I am emigrating. I intend to help as many as I can to leave, as well. The US is a failed experiment, it is badly broken, and it cannot be fixed in my lifetime.

Meanwhile, I contribute as much as I can to those who choose to remain here and try to fix it. I never really understood what a "patriot" was until I started reading blogs like this one.

It's okay to be a sheep, but not at the wheel.

Thanks for sharing.  My mother (a Spaniard) still finds our culture odd after 40 years in the U.S.

I think the blind Bush-supporters are just a very loud minority.

Most other Americans are too caught up in their daily grind to research politics. A huge percentage didn't vote in Election 2004.

Even many informed people didn't publicly criticize Bush after 9-11, for fear of being labeled traitors.

Hurricane Katrina changed that somewhat. The suffering in New Orleans was in our face, spotlighting our current politicians' lack of concern for ordinary citizens.  Previously silent Americans began speaking out for the first time in 4 years.

The Iraq death toll and the CIA leak case (which re-examined the war-lies) only increased the general disgust. Note that Bush's approval rating is waaaay down.  Also, people keep losing jobs, losing pensions, losing health insurance.  And the eventual bursting of the housing bubble has everyone's blood pressure up.

Reality is coming home to roost, and most Americans don't like what they're seeing.  This gives me a glimmer of hope.

60% of Americans don't know who Karl Rove is.

The Albany Project. The best damned blog about New York State politics.

I was surprised when I read your diary, cause I've been thinking and writing about this very subject today.

Are we freethinkers morally superior to the fundamentalist right-wingers?

Assuming that:

  1. No religion or ideology can be the absolute truth
  2. There is no God-given absolute morality

We claim that:
  1. Our ideology is relatively superior to the fundamentalist right-wing ideology
  2. We are not hypocrites

I've searched deep within myself, trying to reconcile all these claims. I had a gut feeling that told me I wasn't a hypocrite, but it took me a while before I could make an argument as to why I wasn't a hypocrite.

The thoughts had been fermenting inside my mind for a long time, but tonight, I sexed up my argument and submitted it as an article on PoliticalCortex.com

I bet you're gonna find some answers in there, and especially in the text that I refer to in my article.

As you soon will see, my article isn't entirely serious. But I had sure had fun writing it :)

I call it...

It's in the submit queue right now, so feel free to vote it up or down.
