Because I hate what O'Reilly represents Email Print

I'm not much for diary entries, but I want to revive a recent call to arms that exemplifies my passion for the online community: solidarity in action.

Call it Operation Felafel Revisited if you want, just make sure you spread the word.

Page over.

cross-posted at Daily Kos

***Edit : just noticed that topic is covered in a recommended diary from saturday still on the list .. considering deletion .. please weigh in in comments section***

Bill O'Reilly is a noxious windbag, spreading filthy distortions (half-truths - whole lies) and essentially polluting public discourse while rotting our electoral system from the inside (of their heads).  Bill O'Reilly is, to me, the reason why democracy is doomed to failure.

All the hopes and dreams of mass media are turned to ugly nightmares by professional liars like O'Reilly.  The potential to unify and inform spoiled rotten.  And I am sick of it.  And Daily Kos has a cure for my dirty liar blues.

Operation Felafel, posted last Friday at Daily Kos, is a great example of regular folks like us using a unified voice to say we've had enough.  I apologize to be rehashing an old diary, but I believe this needs maximum exposure and continued action.  It needs a sustained effort by citizens dedicated to turning the tide against the hate-mongers who have hijacked our airwaves.

So please, TAKE ACTION!

but do something.  below, I have pulled contact emails from the comments of Operation Felafel, but I strongly encourage everyone to go and revisit that diary, as it is a comprehensive source that represents a lot of hard work - it also includes the urls of all the radio stations that carry O'Reilly.  Thanks to GOPhuckYourself for his diary and thanks to all participants in this effort to put this idiot in time-out and let the adults lead the discussion.

For convenience sake, I've extracted the email addresses for O'Reilly's advertisers from Kossaks comments below:

tom.bryant@tempurpedic.com, bob@insure.com, kellyd@emigrant.com,david.r ubinger@equifax.com, brian@lifequotes.com, bthoms@insure.com, emigrantdirect@emigrant.com , marketing@tempurpedic.com

To which I sent a letter similar to below:

Bill O'Reilly went too far when he called on al Qaeda to bomb California.  I will never again buy a product advertised on his show, including, sad to say, yours.

Here are also two corporate offices to call:

insure.com 1-800-324-6370

Blanchard Phone: 1-800-880-4653

And I also advised those stations that run O'Reilly that I sent above letter:

shane_coppola@westwoodone.c om, paul_gregrey@westwoodone.co m, david_hillman@westwoodone.c om, barobinson@cbs.com, rbmcguire@cbs.com, chrismason@clearchannel.com , bobagnew@clearchannel.com, knewnews@clearchannel.com

Here's the email I sent out,

Dear Concerned Corporate Entities,

"We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead." - Bill O'Reilly

Bill O'Reilly supports terrorism.  While that may seem an inappropriate or ill-conceived statement to make, it is absolutely accurate and absolutely true.  When Bill O'Reilly said it was perfectly fine for terrorists to attack the firefighter's memorial in San Fransico, when Bill O'Reilly gave a green light to terrorists, welcoming them and welcoming an attack on our country's soil, when Bill O'Reilly used our air waves to broadcast his endorsement of killing innocent Americans in a retaliatory act he sent a very clear message: it is ok to murder Americans I don't like.

The statements of Bill O'Reilly are treasonous to our nation and unacceptable, under any circumstance, under any excuse.

I will never again buy any product advertised on his show.  I am urging my friends and family to do the same.  The whole country is horrified, after all the national disasters we have seen this year, with the War on Terrorism being actively engaged by our country, to hear such poisonous and irresponsible commentary.

Sincerely Yours,

Please join us in Operation Felafel!

i apologize for rehashing an old diary, but i was afraid it got lost in the end-of-the-week shuffle and feel like this is a great example of what the online community does best: give a voice to regular folk.

Leave it up.

A newer diary than the weekend's will help remind people it's ongoing.

Knew I couldn't stand Rush, but somehow he thinks of O'Reilly as a "moderate, just a regular guy" and started telling me something O'Reilly said as a means of "backing up" his own support of Bush.

When my immediate reaction to the name was "he's an asshole," I think I actually shocked the guy.  Then when I pointed out that O'Reilly was a cowardly thug who regularly threatened both guests and callers, he went off and sulked.

Usually, I feel like I can get on both sides of an issue, but I find it impossible to see the appeal in this dickwad.

In school a few years ago, a right-wing friend of mine tried to sell me on O'Really (or is it O'Lielly?), saying that he is "neutral" and "anti-spin."

That's how O'Whatever bills himself, like Fox bills itself as "fair and balanced."  I guess repetition works.

The scary thing: that guy I mentioned in para 1 was in law school, supposed to be trained in sound reasoning.

I strolled quickly through Freeperville the night he said this.  Most of them think he is a Democrat!

I had to leave.

Maybe he appeals to cowardly thugs?

But that was a softball.  Ask another.  ;)

With messages along this line:

As the owner of a GM vehicle, and an aspiring Cadillac owner, I've been extremely disappointed to learn that your ads were sponsoring Bill O'Reilly.

Sure, I know you're trying to reach an audience, but is "people who like to hear someone threaten an American city with destruction" really the audience you're after?  I won't be buying that Cady while you're connected to this bullying thug, and I'll encourage others to stay away.
