When it Comes to War Bush Moves Very Fast; On the People's Business he goes AWOL Email Print

Throughout the world people gasp as they analyze the Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Wilma disasters.  This same Cheney-Bush unelected ruling Junta is now seeking to explain the calamitous inaction that has resulted in scores of deaths and caused great suffering for so many who survived.

Never let it be said that Cheney-Bush Incorporated move slowly all the time.  Take the Iraq War, for example.  After Cheney and Bush flooded the airwaves frightening Americans with an unproven claim that the citizenry faced an imminent "giant mushroom cloud" in the form of attack from Saddam Hussein's arsenal of "weapons of mass destruction."

When Hans Blix led his team of United Nations weapons inspectors into Iraq and sought more time to complete that effort, the vigilant Junta ruled that no further delay could be countenanced, even after Saddam Hussein had begun destroying his already minimized arsenal.  There were even slurs against Blix being a Swede, meaning he had to be some kind of a pacifist to be scorned, to be sure, by the tough computer terminal warriors who one generation earlier opted out of Vietnam service.  This was a slur in the same vein as pegging the French as spineless quiche eaters.  Remember, when they served it on Air Force One is was Freedom Toast as they scuttled the old "discredited" name of French Toast.

The great cowboy symbol Bush finally led the charge when the swift attack known as "shock and awe" was launched on Baghdad.  As those first bombs were falling the fearless commander who went AWOL rather than complete a flying mission over Houston thrust his clenched right fist boldly in the air and exclaimed, "Feels good!"

The comparison between then and now is instructive.  In the first case Empire was at stake, the necessity of occupying Baghdad en route to achieving the New World Order that Bush's father spoke glowingly about.   Bush the Elder continues to serve that interest with his active service in the Carlyle Group, promoting globalization along with Nixon's leading push button warrior in Vietnam and Chili, Dr. Henry Kissinger.

After all, from a strictly pragmatic standpoint, how can you compare Iraq and hurricanes Katrina and Wilma?  In the first instance the twin tiers of Empire and glohalization are served as Halliburton and Bechtel operatives are rushed quickly to the scene.  The second instance involves largely non-affluent citizens who are essentially powerless and do not constitute a part of the ruling junta's natural base.  FEMA Director Michael Brown, at the time when warnings of impending tragedy were delivered, reflected on appropriate wardrobe attire for the cameras.  Spin control and vanity remain twin hallmarks of a Junta frozen in the ice of its own tragically selfish indifference.

Whether the Cheney-Bush brigade moves fast or slow, destruction follows.  Think of this ruling Junta as the 3D Administration: Death, Destruction and Debt.  It is the inglorious legacy of this ruling Junta and Dittoheads foolish enough to follow the supportive rantings of drug addicted pied piper Rush Limbaugh and the Republican National Committee's media command center also known as Fox News.

The Junta's style does, however, prompt a modification of the T.S. Eliot mournful line about the world ending "not with a bang, but a whimper."  Should this Junta be the achievers of calamitous world destruction it would all end with a Fox News pronouncement that citizens should remain vigilant while they seek to correct tragic problems they inherited from Bill Clinton.

What really amazed me during the Katrina aftermath was how quickly Bush moved to suspend prevailing wage laws yet how slooooowwww the federal government was in getting there and responding to the disaster.

I guess it's a matter of priorities: waging war, dismantling worker rights ... zoooooom. Actually maneuvering a massive federal government into a position of providing real relief and real help ... eh, not so swift.

For a domestic crisis, the junta and its followers trot out "you should not depend on the federal government for ..."(whatever it is that our taxes should pay for if the money hadn't gone to Iraq, instead).

This policy excludes a domestic oil problem, in which case we should expect the federal gov't to give tax breaks and subsidies.

Good article.

Clearly and eloquently stated, Bill.

As usual.

Soon there won't be anywhere Dubya can escape to except Crawford.  The only people he'll see in the Oval Office are Laura, Mother Barbara, Condi, and Karen Hughes.

Sounds like he may be "there" already.

I saw this somewhere else, too. It's scary and hard to believe, especially coming from the Washington Times.  What do you, or anyone else here, make of it?

(I'm trying to get better at news analysis.)

Thanks

little boy, who never grew up and only surrounds himself with those who adore and love him.

He's a petulant child who takes his toys and goes home if you don't play by his rules.

These women enable him.

Can the Washington Times be trusted on this?
