WSJ Poll: Majority Believes White House Misleads Public Email Print

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ONLINE
November 23, 2005

A majority of U.S. adults believe the Bush administration generally misleads the public on current issues, while fewer than a third of Americans believe the information provided by the administration is generally accurate, the latest Harris Interactive poll finds.

64% of Americans believe that the White House generally misleads the public to further its political agenda while 32% believe the WH is being generally accurate.

What makes these results interesting is that the numbers aren't issue specific. This is about the WH SOP.

How do you turn your numbers around when no one believes anything you say?

That's how I read this when I ran across it this morning.

Jeebus.

He's in a world of hurt trying to defend himself on any front from here on out. Two-thirds of the country now won't believe a word that comes out of his (or McClellan's) mouth, even if it's (ha!) the truth.

How can ANYONE effectively lead or govern when lies are assumed (without resorting to declaring martial law)?

...they brought it on themselves.

No one else to blame on this.

that bush's poll numbers are actually rising. Granted, it was like one point, but it is possible he's hit the floor in his approval rates.

My blog is pretty.

I need something to be thankful for tomorrow. Plumetting poll numbers was the top of my list.

that indicates more people recognize the lying pathology of the Bush regime it's cause for celebration.

I would only temper such celebratory enthusiasm by posing the question; "Of those who believe the administration deliberately misleads us, how many believe this is a bad thing to do"? Or, put another way; "How many think it's OK for the President to lie to the public if he believes it's necessary for national security"?

This is the kind of poll question I'd like to see the answer to.

I think most people think it's perfectly okay for the president to lie to "protect" us. Really. And it makes me heebed and jeebed about sharing a country with such people. I'd rather not have the questions answered because it will throw me into a depression I'm not sure I can dig my way out of.

phrase.

As to the idea that we don't want to know the answers for fear of depression orfear that we may have more work ahead of us, the swindlers and propagandists know this; in fact they count on these kinds of reactions, (or, more properly lack of reactions), in order to help press their lies and deceptionjs even more relentlessly onto the public mind.

They're like the pedophile priests who count on their victim's parent's reluctance to accept that what their child is telling them abut being molested is true. How many children were molested for how much longer just because of this dynamic?

Sort of ugly subject matter for Thanksgiving day, but I will be even more thankful when more people realize the depth and all encompasing scope of the Bush regime's lies. And likewise, I will be more thankful when more of us realize that the truth serves us better than the illusions we want to believe, even when the truth makes us uncomfortable.

Happy spirit of thanksgiving to all.
