Bush: "Don't Call Me A Racist" Email Print

In an interview with NBC's Brian Williams yesterday, Bush defiantly declared he wasn't a racist:

WASHINGTON -- President Bush said yesterday the federal government's reaction to Hurricane Katrina was appalling, but was not the result of racial indifference to blacks hard-hit by the storm. "You can call me anything you want, but do not call me a racist," Bush said.

That's right, Bush isn't a racist. His incompetence and indifference is an equal-opportunity destroyer.

George Bush doesn't care about black people. While Bush loves to tout that the employment rate is 5%, he fails to acknowledge the huge gap between white and black unemployement rates. The unemployement rate among black today is twice that of the national average--a staggering 10.6%. In too many cities, the rates of black male unemployment are hovering around 50%.  That means one in every two black males in New York (pdf), Milwaukee, and other cities have no stable way to support their families.

More on the flip...

George Bush doesn't care about white people.  His endorsement of outsourcing most directly affects white males, who hold the majority of the white-collar jobs which are rapidly being outsourced with the  approval of the Bush administration.

George Bush doesn't care about old people. He's the first President ever to skip the White Hous's OWN Conference on Aging, which is happening this week.

George Bush doesn't care about young people.  His budget cuts include slashing $9 billion from student aid programs.  Bush also plans to forbid students with federal loans from being able to consolidate them, thus resulting in higher interest rates for those students burdened with the most debt.

George Bush doesn't care about poor people.  His budget cuts hack away at student lunch programs and food stamps, literally taking the food off the table for America's most impoverished children.

George Bush doesn't care about Iraqi people.  He admitted yesterday that some 30,000 Iraqis have died in the 28 months since the invasion. Last year, a study (heavily criticized by conservatives) put the number at 100,000.  Even working with Bush's figure, that means some 1,000 Iraqis die a month as a result of our interference.

So, sure, Bush isn't a racist. He's just indifference to the plight of anyone who doesn't have capital gains, Hummers, and stock options.

Sure, he may not use the 'N' word, but he certainly treats minorities with a different set of standards -- standard that are unmistakably lower than those for the wealthy white people out there.

To me that is a racist.

And you did this peice with such class -- almost forcing me to take a look at the darker side of the question, "Is Bush a racist?"

my gut reaction is that Bush is mostly interested in himself. I base this on no hard evidence whatsoever. This is mostly just my contempt for Bush speaking.

He likes rich people because they can give him power (by giving to his campaign, by supporting his policies). He probably REALLY likes the way they court him to increase their wealth. I think what he most fears about becoming a lame duck president is not specifically that he won't be able to pass Soc. Sec. reform, etc., but if he's a lame duck, the rich will no longer treat him like their hero.

And I'd be tempted to say that he doesn't even like rich people that much. If they support him and pander to him, he likes them. I have the creeping feeling that he was speaking from the heart when he told that lame joke "Some people call you the elite, I call you my base."

Newsweek's cover got it right; and you nailed it, Georgia.

Bush can not be a racist, he don't comprehend the meaning of large words like this. In his interview he called helicopter pilots (drivers)oh well when your born with the silver spoon in your mouth you don't have to be able to speak or read.
