A Serial Rapist Goes Free in Connecticut

...British hypnotist Michael Johnstone was sentenced to 90 days in prison and later deported to England this year for having sex with a half-dozen patients and videotaping the trysts. The patients went to his office in Milford for anxiety treatment between 2000 and 2003."Reckless endangerment?"Johnstone pleaded no contest in January to three counts each of reckless endangerment and breach of peace [as part of a plea agreement]. He also agreed not to work as a hypnotist.
A person who is drugged and "agrees" to have sex does so in a state of altered or diminished mental capacity; once again, the resulting "sex" constitutes rape, not reckless endangerment.
But in Connecticut, the state legislature feels the need to more closely regulate the hypnotism industry -- which I don't disagree with -- while the state attorney's office seemingly fails to enforce regulations against rape.
Now I will admit that I don't know all of the details regarding the incidents Johnstone was involved in, and therefore I'm unsure why the state of Connecticut allowed him to plea to substantially lesser charges than rape before deporting him. But the situation really doesn't smell good; it doesn't take all of the details or a law degree to figure that much out.
