Sensible judge stymies activist school board Email Print

A divided community either celebrates or mourns the loss of Intelligent Design in the public schools after a federal judge ruled that it was "a religious alternative masquerading as a scientific theory," and thus cannot be a part of public school biology class.

Sensible judge stymies activist school board

His ruling (which I've only begun to skim) is 139 pages. Quite the verbal-bitch slapping. As many have noted--when it comes to judicial opinions--the length of the opinion is directly related to the strength of the point the judge is trying to make. For instance, a 15-page opinion would the equivalent of a slap across the face, accompanied by threats. A 50-page opinion would be putting a horse's head in someone's bed.

This one is a Joe Pesci-style bat-beating. Followed by being buried in the desert. And then being forced to act in Home Alone. Both of them.

PDF files make my computer sad :o(

This is pure wonder and dazzlement all wrapped in a neatly-typed judicial opinion. It's wonderful and hopefully an indication of things to follow. The religious population of this country have long attacked science. My earliest memory of math class (aside from cold sweats and stomach cramps) is my teacher in 4th grade explaining that the numbers all have equations and formulas and once we learn the formulas, the numbers will always behave the same way. When asked why by one of the more simple members of the class (it wasn't me, I swear), she said, "Because God wanted to make it easy for us."

Yeah, it was a Catholic school.

But back to Dover. This ruling will undoubtedly send a shudder down the spines of our religiously-slanted brethren. We can only hope that they react in a rational and mature manner...

........

I sure hope there are more of these "scientifically-activist judges" out there to watch over our backs.
