Prepare for the Inevitable Attack Email Print

No, not from bin Laden, from Republicans who will inevitably politicize Osama's message to perpetuate the lie that members of the American anti-war majority are terrorist-coddling appeasers.

"Oh!" they'll whine, "See what the 'blame-America-first' crowd is doing. They're coddling the enemy. They're providing loving, nurturing support for the terrorists. It's time they shut their mouths and support our president. There's no room for political dissent in America anymore."

Inevitably, they'll quote bin Laden:

...I plan to speak about the repeated errors your President Bush has committed in comments on the results of your polls that show an overwhelming majority of you want the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. But he (Bush) has opposed this wish and said that withdrawing troops sends the wrong message to opponents...

"Doesn't get any clearer than that!"

Already the stream of debris is flowing. Here's a tiny sampling:

Powerline:

I said on Kudlow and Cramer this afternoon that reports of bin Laden's speech made it sound as if [Bin Laden] had absorbed the Democrats' talking points quite well. Reading the speech, or excerpts thereof, reinforces that thought:

[...]

Do you suppose there are any Democrats honest enough to be embarrassed that Osama bin Laden has enthusiastically adopted their campaign themes?

RedState:

UBL is hoping that the Dems take over Congress in 2006 and impeach Bush. He quoted DNC/KOS/Moveon.org/MSM/Murt ha talking points almost verbatim today. Sadly, many "conservatives" are going to continue their proud tradition of not voting, or voting for no-hope third party candidates, in November (to "send a message"), and UBL may get his wish as a result.

Michelle Malkin:

... al Qaeda is paying close attention to MSM polls and pandering to moonbat sentiment

Rightwing News:

And these intellectual giants cleverly posted this story "Bin Laden warns of attacks, offers truce" as "Bin Laden Warns Of Attacks, Offers Truce, Hits On Anti-War Liberal Themes".

So the meme is reinforced. Midstream opponents of Iraq will inevitably stay their hands and their mouths. Approval will rally around the president despite his continued incompetence and corruption. And the public will once again be distracted from 'other' issues at hand.

And All of this favors Bush. Osama must really love our president. He helps him out every time Bush is traversing his most dire straits.

So how do we counter this disgraceful spin? Some suggestions -- note the following...

  1. Bin Laden is still alive and the Bush Administration has failed miserably in their attempts to take in public enemy #1 "Dead or Alive". Why is that?

    From Markos:

Liberals haven't failed to capture Bin Laden

But let's remember -- it's not liberal who are in power. It's been George Bush and his neocon pals. It is THEY who have failed to capture or kill Bin Laden. It is they who have made our country less safe, and created a world in which terrorist attacks have increased. It is they who are making a mess out of the war in Iraq, failing to provide our troops with basic necessities like body and vehicle armor.

  2. Bin Laden had nothing to do with Iraq until Bush invaded it.

  3. Bush benefits every time Bin Laden pokes his head out of his hole. Why is that?

How NOT to counter this:

Because of Bush's gross incompetence and because Bush has successfully generated universal disgust for his ideologically-driven policies, it's a natural reflex to join in any condemnation of the administration's bumbling idiocy. Not this time. We despise Bin Laden and his actions -- period.

Do not offer your head on a plate for disingenuous accusations of "bin Laden lovin' liberuuuls'. You know they're waiting for a slip up. Don't give it to them.

The bottom line is that we must focus on the fact that bin Laden is still at large -- endangering our families, our homes, our nation, and our sensibilities.

Those in charge have failed -- miserably! Don't let anyone forget it!

That means we must never stop as well.

They are truly despicable when they do crap like that. And it's even worse when MSM scum like Chris Matthews spew ridiculous shit about Moore and bin Laden.

They never do stop. And Matthews is slime. I love how the right refers to that slug as our (Dems) ally.

I like how quickly you put together a simple, straightforward reply to the bullshit. Don't know if you can do this often or daily or whatever, but it's the perfect kind of thing we need to have done to get our points across.

We need a rapid reponse team in a big way.

Thanks.

As Embolden says, a Rapid Reponse team would be great. We should even creat a section or even use a keyword "Rapid Response" to consolidate this stuff.

I'll try my best. It would also help to suggest those topics which need a rapid response since I don't always see everything that goes on:)

I've often thought that the blogosphere could do a great job of "correction" by live-blogging the evening news.
