Cut and Stay Email Print

The Houston Chronicle reports James A Baker III has suggested that the Iraq Study Group which he leads will present Bush with options somewhere between the extremes of "stay the course" and "cut and run.

Perhaps what he is aiming towards is more like "Cut and Stay" a plan with something for everyone:
·    Continued regional military dominance exercised through smaller US garrisons stationed at each of the billion-dollar fortresses now being built in the Iraqi desert.
·    A cut back in total US forces by at least 50% and the turnover of Iraqi governance to the locals.

After all, it's not "Run the Course": the futile race of Hum-Vees around the Baghdad Green Zone responding to attacks. And it may reassure our Saudi bank-rollers that we aren't abandoning them.
