Inside Kansas Email Print

Living in a deep-red state like Kansas means that elections are usually pretty boring. This year, however, the tides are really turning against the GOP, even here. Because of this, I feel it's important that I let some of our blue-state readers get a glimpse inside the process. And if any of you have any red-state elections stories, feel free to let everyone know in the comments.

Governor: Sebelius vs. Who-the-hell-cares-he's-gon na-lose.

Sebelius hasn't done anything to piss off Kansans, so she'll win this for sure. The Kansas governor's office is rather interesting - we've actually had a long string of Democratic governors. Apparently, Kansans are happy to put a liberal in charge of local politics, but not national politics. Make of that what you will.

Representative: Ryun vs. Boyda.

It's hard to say with this one. I've heard very little about our track star congressman, and I don't see Ryun losing. But who knows? This is actually a fairly liberal district. I do wonder if Ryun's anti-immigration ads will backfire - there is a pretty substantial latino population here. I went to school with Mexican kids, and they were cool. It was white kids who scared the piss out of me.

Attorney General: Kline vs. Morrison.

Now this is the fun one. Of course, I'm sure you've all heard about our panty-sniffer AG. Maybe you heard about his appearance on the O'Reilly Factor, and how after that appearance O'Reilly magically had access to confidential medical records. It's just a coincidence, I'm sure. In any case, this race is very tight and I think there's a real chance of Morrison erasing one more bit of our national shame.

Senate:

Sadly, we have no senators facing reelection. I guess we're stuck with Brownback and Roberts for a little while longer.
