A Plan for Iraq - Your Thoughts Required! Email Print

I have an idea of a way to get out of Iraq in about a year. I've outlined it here and really want to know what other people think. So - check it out!The basic idea is this. Get about 400,000 Iraqis to sign up for a new national security force. Sunni, Shia, Kurd, whatever.

Take all 400,000 out of the country to places like Quatar, Egypt, England, Germany, Japan, the United States, anywhere that a massive military training can be set up. Train the Iraqis for up to six months, making sure that they work together regardless of ethnicity or religion, just like we try to do in our own US military training.

When they are ready, send them back into Iraq to work side by side with half of the Iraqi troops and police that have already been working there. Pull the other half of those existing Iraqi troops and police out of Iraq and send them to the three to six month training. Then get the rest of the Iraqis into the training.

When you're done, about a year later, you'll have a force of about 600,000 troops and police who have been trained in this new way.

At that point, we should be able to pull all of our US troops out.

So - what do you think?

is twofold.

  1. the logistics of such a vast effort is impossible to comprehend.

  2. the likelyhood of getting the various factions to cooperate is impossible to comprehend.

Too bad, huh.

Good liberal idea but not very likely to happen!
There will be numerous obstacles on the way like:
US does not want to give any power to the sunny arabs due to their desire to create a Sharia state in the Middle East. It will also create stereotypes since many countries will refuse to provide territory for the training of arabs due to logical reasons [some sunnies might be dangerous]! It will definitely be less costly than just keeping the war going but...
