Outraged over "Outrage" Email Print

Progressive Americans, particularly progressive African-Americans, can't be allowed a single day to express themselves.  No, it's the role of Americans to act as prop for the establishment of Right Wing ideals, and should anyone dare speak even a dash of truth to power, that's just... rude.

President Bubble Boy emerged from hiding yesterday just long enough to encounter actual Americans at the funeral of Coretta Scott King, and in doing so, got his ears burned by the words of people who had known and worked with Mrs. King for decades.  Of course, from the undented smirk on his face, it wasn't clear the president understood, or even heard, the comments.

That didn't stop the right from being outraged.  Outraged, I say! By the political statements at the funeral of someone who was involved in political actions all her life.

The whining in the right started even before the funeral was over.  Always reliable Republican water-carrier, Chris Matthews, starting the tsk-tsk before the first speakers even left the podium, citing such horrors as the fact that President Carter mentioning that both Mrs. King and her husband had been subject to illegal wiretaps.  Hey now, don't you know that President Bush is using illegal wiretaps and he's sitting right there.  You might, you know, hurt his feelings.  Maybe take the shine off his "sunny nobility."

This morning, CNN played host to more Republican whining.  So did MSNBC's "Imus in the Morning" where Don Imus decided to lecture on proper funeral behavior.  Among other gems, he called President Jimmy Carter "despicable."

My letter to CNN

What astounding hypocrisy!

Why, why, why is CNN giving people who didn't care a fig for Mrs. King when she was alive, a platform to talk about the "outrage" over her funeral?  They were offended by Mrs. King's message of fairness, hope, honesty, kindness and equality when she was with us.  Now that she's gone, they still don't want to hear the words she lived by.

These people wanted nothing but a "minstrel show" of sobbing African Americans to act as a backdrop for President Bush.  Well, that wasn't Mrs. King then, and it's not her legacy now.

Why don't you ask the next person who is so concerned about the funeral: "and just how well did you know Mrs. King?"

My letter to Imus... wait, I probably shouldn't print that one.  "You odious toad" were the kindest words in the note.  Mrs. King was always kind, but then, I'm not as good as she was.

Want to tell CNN what you think of letting people who hated everything King stood for talk about how she should be mourned?  Tell them here.

Want to let MSNBC know what you think of all hat, and holy-crap-what-happened-to- your-face cowboy Don Imus?  Give 'em a nudge at viewerservices@msnbc.com.

Want to tell Don Imus what's really despicable?  Contact him directly at imus@msnbc.com

There's a good Daily Kos diary on the subject here including many notes of outrage-outrage.

I had my outrage at their outrage hit fairly late last night and posted something that slid like putty down the page at Kos. I think I'll post it here later today -- it has a frame of how the GOP wants to control every aspect of our lives ... and deaths.

I really think we need to keep hitting back hard on this one. We're not going to take this stupidity anymore.

That I've seen is this post from bluerevolt over at kos
* The Republicans want to control your births
    * They want to control what you see, read, and hear while you live
    * They want to control whether or not you're allowed to die
    * And now they want to control what is said at your funeral

I'd reword that a bit, but I think there's a Democratic theme song in there.

who are so quick off the mark to criticize the left for being the "language police," they have an awful lot of brownshirts parading around spewing the same talking points.

Hypocrisy, thy acronym is GOP.

It's just about "taste," you see.  Those on the unwashed left worry about being politically correct.

Having taste is just something that come naturally with money and good breeding.

kind of "taste" only comes through greed, malfeasance, and inbreeding.

See, like Rev. Lowery, I can rhyme.  Kind of.

Anyway, throw yourself on the senseless mass of conservative bunk bubbling up on the US Today site here

I particularly like the post that complains about Carter giving the Panama Canal to Communist China.
