Chinese Protester: "President Hu: Stop Bush from Killing" Email Print

Today, a meeting between President Bush and Chinese President Hu Jintao was interrupted by a protester who pleaded, "President Bush: Stop him from killing".

In other news, Bush's disingenuous invasion of Iraq has killed 2,378 American soldiers and an estimated 100,000 Iraqis -- women and children included. But no worries, Saddam Hussein is still alive and Bush is currently having tea with yet another dictator who more closely adheres to the economic interests of the United States.

In fact, in an ironic display of the freedom, liberty, and democracy frequently enjoyed by Americans pre-Bush Administration, White House security allowed a Chinese Protester the freedom to deliver her impassioned message to Chinese President Hu Jintao unabated -- a democratic luxury rarely afforded to protestors directing their concerns toward President Bush.

It was a strange sight as the woman 'heckler' at today's Hu-Bush pomp-o-rama continued her 'rant' with White House security conspicuously slow to the scene.

China "must know that this Bush administration is good at controlling crowds for themselves, and the fact that they couldn't control this is going to play to their worse fears and suspicions about the United States, into mistrust about American intentions toward China."

Certainly, if the woman had a gun, or God forbid she was criticizing Bush, she would have been hog-tied within the millisecond.

But this was a special circumstance. This wasn't an anti-Bush protester expressing concern for Bush's un-democratic, monstrous acts of negligence, will, and incompetence. This was an anti-'someone-other-than-Bu sh' protester expressing concern for some non-Bush entity's un-democratic, monstrous acts.

See the difference?

Simply put, the White House wanted to send a message to Hu (and to the rest of the world) that they've been unable to effectively communicate in the past -- that America is a free country, with a constitution and a set of principles that protects the governed from the despotic tendencies of a leadership corrupt with power and arrogance.

In short, it took a ruthless dictator to make Bush appear as though he actually believed in the values and principles laid out by our Founding fathers centuries ago.

So the administration had to milk this opportunity. They didn't want security to whisk away this protester as they had to so many in the past who dared to speak openly in Bush's presence, sport an "Oaf-in-Office" T-shirt (after signing the Republican 'loyalty oath'), or worse -- display a "Bush Blows" bumper sticker on their car lost somewhere in lot D.

Nope, this protester had to stay because it's a rare opportunity for even the masters of politicization when they can effectively politicize a protester's angst for their own gain.

Nevertheless, we shouldn't allow Bush's shortcomings to overshadow this woman's courage -- eyeing her former oppressor and standing tall for that which she believes.

Indeed, she should serve as an inspiration to those who wish to continue that tradition in the U.S. -- that we too should continue to eye our oppressor and tell him that we will not stand for his tyranny.

I'm sure the woman at today's event never intended to display the hypocrisy of this administration for the world, but true heroism is always unintended.

So please, President Bush, as a tribute to this woman's courage if for no other reason, stop the killing.

...on the radio just a bit ago. Remarkable, isn't it, that even during the most security-cleared events more and more people are stepping up and speaking out in protest? These people have such nerve and heart and fearlessness.

You'd think that our leaders would get the clue that the natives are getting restless. We can't be marketed to and manipulated into oblivion without a fight.

...that they don't care. Sure they're perturbed when a protester has his or her day, but they just look at them as common nuisances to be disgarded withthe rest of the political waste.

I highly doubt they contemplate any behavioral changes as a result.

That said, it does affect public opinion which will hopefully -- eventually, help to sway the electorate back into common sense when they next venture to the polls.

Keep on fighting!
