Old Soldiers Thoughts on the USA

The responses are an eye opener, and that should say a lot since I spent 14 years in the Army, playing "follow the leader" but there do come times where you say wait, this is wrong and I just can't do it, in my opinion Iraq is one of those times. Afghanistan was the right use of our military forces, and Iraq was an idealogues quest, and the public is paying the price, in blood and deficits. More Below the fold
There is no call for accountability, why should we care for something that happened 30 years ago, when it seems we don't even care about the NSA spying mess, do you all really beleive there are 500 phone calls or e mails every day from terorists inside America?
When W can state in the same breath that he is just protecting America, and that he has the right to order eavesdropping on conversation between us and our doctors, lawyers and religious reps, and even republicans do not get mad, and just accept it then somethinbg is drastically wrong.
I spent 14 years in a "follow the leader" society. I served in the Army for 14 years, I seldom found it necessary to question the order's I received. I was not happy about being ordered into Panmumjom with a piece of wood in my hand to retrieve a briefcase in 1975, I am sorry 500 men with work tool handles aginst a few thousand North Koreans with machine guns is not a fair fight, but the powers above us knew what they were doing, the brief case was returned and we left the DMZ, victorious. Iraq is not and will never have the same feelins that we did that day.
As a society we are supposed to question our leaders when we think what they are doing is wrong. What shape would our nation be in if the Bostonians had not grouped together for the "Tea Party" what if the niehgbors had not showed up for the Revolutin of 1776, come on folks in this case it does take a "nation" to raise it's leaders. When they are wrong spank them.
They are not above the law, by proclaiming we did it to save you, they are as accountable as we are. I realize I was just a Staff Sergeant in the Army, but then again so was Dr Kissinger, the distinguished elder statesman, the thing is I know I am not a Dr Kissinger type, I have a consience and a soul. I don't wince when I look in the mirror.
