Spring Cleaning at the White House

With Bolten pushing his five-point plan to salvage what's left of the Bush Presidency. But a simple cosmetic procedures (such as bringing in Tony Snow) or any amount of PR campaigns won't bring up those poll numbers. When CNN has you at 32% and Faux News at 33%, you know you're in trouble. Even with the President out promoting his energy policy, while at the same time imposing oil reserve limits, as well as pushing his immigration policy and Medicare D plan, his numbers are plummeting.
By the way, have you noticed that lately every time he gives a speech (even to pre-screened supporters), his poll numbers go down? (Don't forget that oil companies' profit reports are due out 4/25/06.)
Such a limited "hit the road and court the press" approach won't begin to correct the imbalance we currently have in Washington. It's time for a Democratic counterattack.
In ascending order of importance, then, here's one idea:
1. Fire Rummy
2. Fire Chertoff
3. Fire Condi Rice
4. Fire Porter Goss
5. Fire Dick Cheney
6. Fire Karl Rove and wait for the indictments
7. Fire Abu Gonzales
8. Fire anyone in the White House who enabled the current policies.
9. Resign.
10. Hastert will serve only from May-July, since our do-nothing Congress takes August off.
This sums it up: something's rotten in Washington, but it will take an entire regime change come November before someone can clean up the mess. Sadly for the American people, we must wait for the policies and mistakes of this Administration to be inherited by those who still believe in, support, and abide by the Constitution.
I had a roommate once in college who seemed oblivious to the state of her room, the disarray of the house, or the disorganization that followed in her wake. More importantly, she refused to recognize or to admit that she had a responsibility to contribute to the clean-up. I suspect most of us have known or lived with others exhibiting similar behavior.
It's just that we've never had one as the primary resident of the White House. Regardless of the number of public appearances he makes, the mess in Washington will need a lot more than a little Spring cleaning--and someone else will have to do it.
