Peter King is an Asshole! (Episode 2) Email Print

As some of you may know, I've decided to start local blogging the Peter King race.  Peter King is one of those long time incumbents who thinks he has a safe seat and, as a result, has lost touch with his electorate -- a middle class Long Island community which is fed up with George Bush and rapidly trending blue.  

Moreover, the race now has a blue chip challenger, State legislator Dave Mejias.  Charlie Cook, recognizing this trend, has just moved the race from "Solid Republican" column to "Likely Republican." (pdf file).

This is clearly one of those races that in a tidal wave election could sweep King out of office.  More importantly, however, King is one of those "national" Republicans who appears on Fox News all the time saying outrageously provacative things about Democrats and anyone who opposes Bush's atrocious policies on Iraq.  Putting him on the defensive in his district will cause him to moderate his tone, because Bush is extremely unpopular on Long Island.  Moreover, it will tie him down locally so he can't fundraise for other candidates.  (As head of the Homeland Security committee in the House, King is a fundraising draw for lobbyists).

So, for all of those reasons, and because I live within driving distace (or, more accurately, LIRR distance), from King's district, I am locally blogging this race.

I am also locally blogging this race because, as anyone who has seen Peter King bloviating on TV knows, he is a complete ASSSHOLE!  (Click the link).  So kicking him out of office would be enormously satisfying, from a personal perspective.

And now, in keeping with the theme of this diary.  Here is "episode 2" of that show that never ends: "Peter King is an ASSHOLE":

In 2005, [Peter King] stated that Valerie Plame deserved to be outed as a supposedly covert CIA operative. King also suggested that the media "be shot" for pursuing the story and identifying White House aide Karl Rove as the then-alleged leaker.

Here's a more accurate quote:

Rep. Peter King (R-NY): "I think Karl Rove should get a medal. ... I really mean that. I think this is much do about nothing, becauselet's look at the facts very clearly. . . . Joe Wilson has no right to complain. And I think people like Tim Russert and the others, who gave this guy such a free ride and all the media, they're the ones to be shot, not Karl Rove."

I'll say it again, Peter King is an A-S-S-H-O-L-E!

And he has no business being in congress not to mention one from the Blue state of NY.
