Niggers vs. Chinks vs. Spics vs. Crackers: See BS programming Email Print

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming with this important message...

We need to talk:

Specifically, we need to talk about the new CBS program called Survivor:Cook Island, sporting one of the most ethnically diverse casts ever assembled.  Ironically, this is the 13th season of Survivor... and that is not going to be a lucky number for things like ethnic stereotyping.

Jeff Probst popped in on The Early Show Wednesday morning, confirming the reports that the 20 castaways for Survivor: Cook Islands will be grouped by race, with competitors divided into four tribes consisting of whites, blacks, Asians and Hispanics.

That's right kids, the satirical Stereotype Olympics, of Carlos Mencia's comedy show, The Mind of Mencia has now jumped the shark and been turned into a serious prime time production.  What do you call it when "reality" imitates satire? Crumbeleivable?

"This idea is so ill conceived that it would be funny--but for the fact that racism does still sometimes rear its ugly head," [New York City] councilman John Liu said at a press conference Friday. "This show has the potential to set back our nation's race relations by 50 years.

"Nowhere else do we tolerate racial segregation, and we certainly won't stand for it in this battle-of-the-races scheme to prop up sagging television ratings."

Some might think Mr. Liu is merely being histrionic, overreacting if you will, trying to grab a little national press at the expense of a popular show.  After all, this show may confound the skeptics when contestants perform in ways that no one expected.  This could be a watershed event in race relations on par with Bill Cosby's "Cosby Show" from the 80s.  Who knows, maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt.

Speaking of flying monkeys, Rush Limbaugh has already jumped onto this bandwagon.

Hispanics, he said, "have shown a remarkable ability to cross borders" and "will do things other people won't do." Asians, per Limbaugh, are "the best at espionage, keeping secrets." Blacks "lack buoyancy" and are "more likely to drown," while the white man's burden will weigh down the last team with "guilt over the fact that they run things."

So much for the death of ethnic stereotypes.

This does raise an obvious question:  What the #$$!*!^X were they smoking over at CBS?  And did anyone think about the fact they are using the public airwaves (a public trust) to promote this nonsense?

The suits at CBS are defending their decision to segregate the tribes based on ethnicity and deny it was a ploy to grab headlines and ratings--both of which the show could desperately use.

"CBS fully recognizes the controversial nature of this format but has full confidence in the producers and their ability to produce the program in a responsible manner," the network said in a statement. "Survivor is a program that is no stranger to controversy and has always answered its critics on the screen."

I have no idea what that means, but one thing is clear.  The show may actually serve to promote racial unity.  Thanks to this insane minstrel show, people from all walks of life and all ethnic groups are uniting in opposition to this crap.

If you would like to add your voice, feel free to contact CBS, and Survivor Entertainment Group, as well as your local papers and radio stations, to let them know the survival of their network, program, and relations with sponsors are in serious jeapordy. Note: simply haranguing them will not cut the mustard.  Consequences are what matter.  Boycotts are what matter.  Regardless of what they claim in press releases, it is all about the money.  We need to make it clear that race-baiting is the royal road to financial ruin.
