Israel: If it moves, kill it Email Print

In another example of the idiocy of using air war against targets mixed in a civilian population, Israel has announced a policy of bombing everything that moves.
The Israeli military stepped up its campaign against Hezbollah militants in an area of southern Lebanon on Tuesday, dropping leaflets that warned people not to drive or their vehicles would be shelled.

Considerinbg that previous leaflets had warned residents to evacuate, these latest warnings are causing both fear and confusion.
The leaflets, dropped in the city of Tyre, told people that Israeli troops planned to destroy any moving vehicles in an area south of the Litani River, about 30 kilometres from the Israeli-Lebanon border.
According to the leaflets, Israeli forces will assume that vehicles on roads in the area are transporting weapons for Hezbollah. Israeli forces have imposed an indefinite curfew on the area.
The result of this order is to pin thousands of civilians into the hottest part of the war zone.

And it shows once again that bombing can only happen when a country decides that any level of civilian casualties is acceptable.  This is not to excuse any action of Hizbollah.  They are terrorists.  They knowingly target civilians and put the Lebanese population at risk by launching their weapons in the midst of neighborhoods.  But in the weapons they've chosen and the tactics they've adopted, the Israeli govermment is demonstrating a disregard for life that's just as criminal as the criminals they're fighting.

You're exactly right when you say, "But in the weapons they've chosen and the tactics they've adopted, the Israeli govermment is demonstrating a disregard for life that's just as criminal as the criminals they're fighting."

Since this current conflict began, this has been all too obvious.  The bombing, according to HRW and Amnesty Intl and people on the ground, has been indiscriminate and, in some cases, appears almost to be intentional.  And they go so far as to use illegal cluster bombs to wipe out entire areas.  These are clear war crimes and Israel should be held accountable for them.
