Lamont Wins!!! Email Print

All day long, the internets have been roasting under the load.  Lieberman's site has been down more than 18 hours.  The State of Connecticut's official site for results is down.  Even Kos was temporarily knocked off the air.

So, because it's as required for a political site today as breathing, here are the current results.

U.S. Senate - - Dem Primary
733 of 748 Precincts Reporting - 97.99%

NamePartyVotesPct
    Lamont, NedDEM144,005 51.79
    Lieberman, Joe (i)CFL134,026 48.21

Lamont widening the gap as the last precincts report. It appears he even took Hartford. So long, Joe! All the majors are now reporting Joe's concession speech and Joe's home town paper has called it for Lamont.
CNN now reporting that Joe has surrendered.

Sen. Joe Lieberman has conceded to upstart challenger Ned Lamont in Connecticut's Democratic primary.
Unfortunately, Lieberman proved to be just as egotistical as he had indicated earlier and immediately launched into his indy campaign.

If the gap stays about 5K, I'd think that would be enough to discourage any kind of recount.  Though we've been bemoaning the shrinking gap, a 3% win is still a pretty solid win these days.

No new numbers for the last five minutes.  There seems to be a lull in the reporting.  Hopefully, it's not so a bunch of Lieberman staff can substitute some freshly printed pro-Joe ballots.

And what do you think the probability of a recount is if this thing ends up REALLY close?

Is there an automatic trigger for such a recount?

by Embolden on 08/08/2006 10:28:40 PM EST

[ Parent ]
and purely guessing that if we are forunate enough to end this thing with Lamont ahead by 4% (approximately the current spread), than that would be too much for any automatic recount trigger if the state has one.

I think such triggers usually light up at about 0.5%, but I could certainly be wrong and I'm sure it varies.
