Political Cortex: Brain Food for the Body Politic

Hillary Clinton recently stepped boldly up to podium, and proclaimed in no uncertain terms that she thinks burning the American flag is DESPICABLE! Without the slightest hint of hesitation, she brought out the big guns and shot "despicable" out there---an adjective usually reserved for child molesters! For a minute, even Carl Rove didn't know what to say.  
Despicable? Let's work with that. What do you call a liberal who swings to the right during election season? I think THAT'S despicable! When are the Democrats going to listen to Bill Maher and realize that when you swing over to the right during election season, you lose your liberal base, and the voters on the right aren't buying it! The people on the right are already convinced that Hillary is the antichrist, but she still tries to suck up to them.  And then the liberals get confused and vote for Ralph Nader. They say that the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Well, the Democrats have been getting their asses kicked since Y2K never lived up to its billing. Survivalists who bought thousands of cans of non-perishable foods have already run out and started going back to the grocery store, and the Republicans are still in power. When I heard Hillary say that burning the American flag is despicable, I almost puked! With no warning whatsoever, Hillary is suddenly a racist, calling 70 percent of the Arab population despicable! If Howard Dean runs Hillary in 2008 (who is making actual liberals sick lately), then Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney will be our next president.
These patriots who seem to think that there is something inherently HOLY about the American flag, and that we're the greatest nation in history, and the envy of all mankind, and they hate us because we're so much better than them, and all that happy horse poop---they should seriously think about this: what is the reason that practically every other nation on this planet hates America with a passion? It's not what Bush says---they hate us for our freedom (what freedom do we really have if we can't even burn a flag if we're so inclined, or get married if we're gay?)---maybe it's because they think our freedom includes being free to run roughshod over the rest of the world, and we can tell them what to do because we are THE super power, and we must change them, and save them from themselves, and make them just like us, or as close as we can get them, until they at least do whatever we tell them.
We want to spread democracy so the rest of the world can get mired down in endless partisan wars where nothing ever gets accomplished because no two parties can ever agree on a single thing. Like when the senate was literally divided fifty-fifty (50 Republicans and 50 Democrats), and everybody voted along party lines, so no vote would ever pass. Finally they entered a motion that they would vote to "agree to disagree" and they couldn't even agree on a measure that they would agree to disagree.
How can burning a piece of chintzy fabric be despicable, when the platform of the people who say that is to take away the funding for programs for the poorest of the poor so they can funnel it in the form of tax cuts for their rich friends?
Even Warren Buffett felt so guilty after a while that he gave 38 billion dollars to charity, at least after Bill Gates talked him into it, maybe because Warren was encroaching a little too close for comfort on Bill's title of the richest man in the world. Why doesn't GATES give 85% to charity? I mean, sure, he gives, but like Jesus said, the widow who gave the once pence gave more because she gave all that she had.
    And then they to try to change a so far successful enterprise called the United States that was founded on the mandatory separation of religion and government, and force their own personal religious beliefs on the overall populace. They sound the battle cry: "Let's make it official and declare that America is a Christian nation! Like it or leave it, get thee behind me Satan!" Their main argument is: "We were FOUNDED as a Christian nation, so that proves it! History's on our side and so is God! This may be our last chance to save America from the wrath of God, so make sure you vote for a Republican, because even though they in no way resemble or follow Jesus, they were supposed to be the moral party, because the Democrats don't mind gay marriage. Good Lord, the Democrats would actually allow two grown adults do what makes them happy in the privacy of behind closed doors, as long as they're not hurting anybody! But we can't allow that, because our own personal opinions over rule every one else's and they must be forced to conform into our view."
    But even God said that man has free will, and when it all comes down to it, he basically lets us do whatever we want. He may not like everything we do, but at least he was fair enough to say "OK, It's your life--go ahead, whatever turns you on! I will burn the evil world to a crisp in the end, and I would so very much rather that you behave and be well before it's too late for you (and the end may be much sooner than you think!). But if you persistently resist I will ultimately let you knock yourself out!" He ultimately lets you choose your own lifestyle, but he also warns that if you don't do what he wants you to do, that you will pay for it by suffering in hell for all eternity.  So is that really free choice? If it is, it's temporary free choice at best. Because once you're in this supposed hell, you're stuck there forever, and you don't WANT to be there, but you have NO CHOICE at that point! So, is there a difference between free will and free choice? Exactly what is going on here?
So tell the militant Christians--"OK, whatever; let's say we were founded as a Christian nation, even though what you really mean is that the people who founded this nation were Christians, but they didn't necessarily dictate that this country be Christian. Besides which, that was 230 years ago, Pal, so take a look around you, and welcome to a country that's filled with all different ethnic groups, and races, and religions that aren't necessarily Christian, and homosexuals and straights; liberals, conservatives, communists, terrorist cells (but they were never welcomed in), cats living with dogs, and everything else God created!
Remember when they were telling us that America was a "melting pot" with a very diverse populace of every imaginable different sort? Well they weren't kidding, man! They actually knew what they were talking about. It wasn't just some theory, it really happened!
So we're NOT actually a Christian nation, and that was never the point. And we never WILL be a Christian nation unless they do away with constitution and the liberals get their asses kicked so many times that they finally give up and go hide out in Harlem with Bill Clinton. Then all the new regime would have left to do is to kick out of the country whatever percent of the population isn't Christian, even though that wouldn't be a very Christian thing to do. But the new Christianity isn't about being nice anymore, it's about not tolerating gays and protecting the American flag. Maybe they'll adopt the Al Qaeda method, and give people the option to either convert or die.
I shudder to think of what's going to come out of Hillary's mouth next. The way she pounds the podium with her fist for dramatic effect at the predetermined moments--and then she slows down to one word per fist pound for emphasis--it's just so choreographed and phony and insincere that you can see right through her. It becomes so obvious that Hillary doesn't stand for anything or belong to any particular ideology or belief; she'll just keep reinventing herself and say whatever she has to say to get enough votes to get elected.
It just seems like the goal for all these politicians is to attain the power of elected office--and that's all--power for the sake of power. It's not to shape the course of events, or make things better, or because you believe in something that needs to get done. It's OK to be a lame duck, and never get anything on the agenda accomplished, just so long as you manage to hold on to that holy grail of being in office for as long as you possibly can.
         It's like playing King of the Hill. You win an election, and you're on top of that hill, and then you just have to keep fending off the opponents who try to climb up on the hill and knock you off during future elections. The incumbent has the advantage because there's better leverage on the top of the hill, and all he's got to do is push the challengers back down the hill when they try to make it up to his spot. They have to travel uphill, but he's on level ground. It's all really only a game, isn't it?
