Shadowing the Republican Underground Email Print

The Rob Simmons campaign in the second district of CT was called out by the Joe Courtney campaign. A fellow by the name of Thomas Misenti, a Rob Simmons insider, was traced to being the source of some unbelievably inappropriate campaign slander.

In one instance, a youtube video that can be seen in part in this news report posted on the Courtney site, shows apocalyptic images from [somebody's] Holocaust veiling an implied threat that voting for Courtney would somehow contribute to such a scenario. The video played out numerous other equally extreme and absurd assertions. That video's credit linked to this blogsite which boasted the video as well as a blog of screeds that come from the same source.

Since the Courtney campaign complained the site has been sanitized - if that's what you call sanitization. Gone are the Soviet-inspired propaganda gif pictures showing hammers and sickle posters proclaiming "Vote for Courtney" or a picture of Joe taken from a Courtney commercial with "F"*"ck Courtney" knife carving in the footer. There was more "free speech".

The weblog is called Connecticut Citizens In Action and they play it with a straight face oblivious to the classic Jon Stewart play on words that might see it as Connecticut Citizens Inaction. Abbreviated, CT-CIA, the site implies to its wingnut audience a CIA insider intimicy. But the sources of this weblog are a humorless bunch and Misenti's technical expertise is key to its existence as well as content. But this story is about much more than campaign slander.

You see Misenti claims to be the 2nd District field coordinator for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — a group that has directly and indirectly supported Simmons re-election campaign. That claim is very interesting because Democrats have long suspected election irregularities and if the Simmons campaign is manipulating funds and employees of government services to gain political advantage then maybe this is happening across the country to other Democrats as well.

Dear reader, the plot thickens and has yet to boil. I hate to cheapen the discussion by mentioning the negligence of the Main Stream Media in this story but most played it as a "Republican said - Democrat said" story. This is partially because Rob Simmons' campaign manager claims that Misenti's poor taste, lack of judgement and extremist assertions are a matter of "free speech". His ruse that Misenti is just an 18 year old [Misenti is 21] college kid and a part-time volunteer no longer affiliated with the campaign. The ruse is working. In Connecticut the media has let the story disappear.

But this is where it starts getting interesting and I have to warn readers with weak stomachs to have a vomit bag handy because the story also gets uglier and Chris Healey's coverup becomes dangerously disingenuous.

Today the CT Citizens in Action weblog contains this entry:

CT-CIA Laments Loss Of Fallen Brother In War For Free Speech

CT CIA is, and has always been, a blog by many people. We all post under the name Publius, in order to illustrate our belief in the American system. Today, however, one person was called out and his privacy was invaded. He hasn't posted in a while, but he has, regardless, now decided to leave the blog for good. He was too intimidated by Joe Courtney's thugs, and decided it wasn't worth it. So it's just the rest of us now. Joe Courtney tried to shut us down today. But we are still here. He tried to take away one of our most precious rights: The Freedom of Speech. The First Amendment. What is Congressman Simmons doing? Passing LISSA, getting hundreds of millions of dollars for Electric Boat, including a new contract to build diesel subs. And Joe Courtney is trying to shut us down, infringe on our most basic rights as American citizens, while other blogs are allowed to do the same thing. Except Courtney likes those blogs. You can't have it both ways. Either everyone goes, or we all stay.

We will always be a bastion of free speech, representing America's most precious ideals. We are a diamond in the rough of the liberal blogosphere. We lost a brave soldier in that battle today, but we will continue to fight on in our fallen brother's name. We're still here, Comrade Joe, fighting the Good Fight. It is our duty as American citizens."

It is followed by the pledge of allegience and a picture of a flag. Let's take a look at what's hiding behind this flag.

Misenti is a UConn student who is an English major who was a Rob Simmons intern. And, as you can see from the blog entry, rather than apologize for inappropriate material the voice of the Simmons campaign [Publius] laments Misenti's so-called departure, weeps at his invasion of privacy, and claims intimidation by Courtney. Yet not a single claim is true.

How would anyone know if Misenti is still blogging under the corporate alias of Publius. And Courtney didn't complain about Republican bloggers, he complained about unfair and hysterically inappropriate content. What American duty is there to tar a political opponent with outrageously fraudulent claims?

There's more here than meets the eye. Misenti's privacy wasn't invaded because he left a trail anyone could follow. In fact, the Simmons campaign who claim to be such trusted insiders familiar with all things military, secret, and hush-hush should be ashamed for their sloppiness [in more ways than one as we'll soon discuss]. Or maybe Democrats should take pride in being vigilent, discreet, and trustworthy. Decide as you read on who is more trustworthy.

And where that trail leads is the next lower ring of political hell. Before, Mr. Misenti became a "fallen brother" he linked his banner gif for the webblog to a gaming site called "www.duckandcover.cx " where Mr Misenti calls himself "King of Creation".

Before the Duck and Cover site was locked down by our dear "fallen brother" he entangled a gaming community to do his dirty work. Maybe he's not answering his phone because he's too buzy squirming to cover his tracks.

In our next installment, we'll examine what the Democrats found there.

And we will wonder why the link between violent gaming sites and the Republican blogosphere [Hint: the Truthout site was attacked months ago by a violent gaming site forumite as well]. And we will examine whether or not Republican operatives are engaging impressionable teens into anti-social behaviors for political exploitation. In the next segment, we will wonder if the apocalyptic images are suggestive of future retributions by government insiders if their candidates are defeated in November - free speech or voter intimidation?

Duck and Cover - a violent gaming site? Hardly. DAC is a last vestige of civilization in an otherwise uncivilized land, a last bastion of rationality in a world where imbecility reigns supreme.

Never forget.
