Great News from Canada! McGuinty Leads Liberal Triumph!

McGuinty won the premier's post with a 42 percent vote, a substantial plurality figure. The 52-year-old lawyer held a solid edge over John Tory of the Liberal Progressives. Tory achieved a 32 percent figure.
It is good news for progressives that McGuinty triumphed by opposing the issue that Tory hoped would propel his party to victory. That issue was what is termed separation of church and state in the United States.
Tory sought public funding of faith-based private schools. His party's loss is seen as a reflection that Ontario's voters rejected the idea of financing through the public treasury parochial schools.
The bad news is that it made Americans also think of the current image of a red-faced, glassy-eyed, clueless appearing George W. Bush facing cameras in his steady war of attrition with American democracy.
McGuinty's limelight position as premier of the major Canadian province that includes cosmopolitan, vote rich Toronto prompts observers to wonder if he has just the right stuff to emerge as a major national party leader reflective of the dynamism of a Pierre Trudeau.
Canada needs to be wrested from the grip of current prime minister and Bush ally Steven Harper, who shares many ideas with Bush, including the continuation of the tragic war in Iraq.
Just as McGuinty is a breath of fresh air looking forward to a brighter Canadian future, Harper is reflective of the retrogressive philosophy of an ally of the elder George Bush, former Conservative Party Prime Minister Brian Mulroney.
McGuinty and leaders like him represent the positive voices of Canada's future. Harper and Mulroney hearken back to a dismal, trouble ridden past for Canadians.
