Fools Rush in Where Angels Fear to Tread

What has happened in the Middle East since the monumental deceit that the U.S. was threatened with Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction and the Iraqi dictator's nuclear ambitions is history written in blood and death.
The Bush Republican Administration, instead of bringing freedom and democracy to the entire Middle East, has instead transformed the entire region into a tinder box ready to ignite.
The ensuing hell has seen 600,000 to a million Iraqi deaths and 2 ½ million refugees fleeing to Syria, Jordan and Iran with 3,800 U.S. service personnel dead and 55,000 combatants and non-combatants wounded.
Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Thomas Gates were on a mission to Moscow last week, determined to push Russian President Vladimir Putin into accepting the placing of military rocket might along Russian borders, all in a frantic attempt, so they claimed, to prevent Iran from developing nuclear war power capability.
Maybe the end result of a tangled foreign policy has finally been achieved. When Saddam Hussein was at war with Iran, who was supplying weapons to keep the killing of Iranians going strong? It was the U.S.A. along with many other nations boosting dictator Saddam's killing power in both Iran and Iraq.
Saddam's discovery and death are not mourned by many. However, that "quickie" Saddam trial avoided plenty of embarrassment for the U.S. and approximately 23 other nations that were making deals for Iraq's oil and keeping Saddam's killing machine going full blast with weapons of every description.
What triggered the U.S.A. into launching the Iraq War was a carefully orchestrated media blitz spreading fear of Saddam threatening the U.S. with weapons of mass destruction and, even worse, Saddam developing threatening nuclear power.
The gullible Congress praised Bush for protecting U.S. citizens. With a war labeled like a TV special that was called "Shock and Awe" it began.
When asked how it felt as bombs blasted Baghdad, Bush declared on White House video, "Feels good!"
Saddam Hussein was ultimately found and rushed through a quickie trial to avoid finding out all that the U.S. had supplied for him in the form of weapons of every type and description.
Instead of bringing democracy and freedom to Iraq, spreading magically to the entire Middle East, Bush and his Republican robots transformed the entire Middle East into a living hell. Iran, seeing what happened to Iraq, is not about to let the identical tragedy happen to them.
Survival is the most basic instinct of humankind. Gunnel Clark of Seattle, in a letter appearing in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer October 15, wrote concerning Washington U.S. Senator Patty Murray.
Clark mentioned that Patty Murray had courageously and wisely voted against the original Iraq War Resolution. Clark then added, "But Murray's membership on the Appropriations Committee puts her in the middle of the debate over the war funding."
Gunnel Clark then expressed disappointment over Senator Murray's questions that did not deal with how long we should continue our stay in Iraq and the treatment of wounded soldiers.
Here is how Gunnel Clark expressed his valid views:
"She (Senator Patty Murray) posed no questions about the legality of the war, false claims of fabricated intelligence, etc., or, most important how we can possibly justify that every day an average of three soldiers are killed and many more wounded for a cause that was lost before it started, not to speak about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who have been killed and the millions who have been displaced."
Proof that the American public is outraged by the Democratic Congress caving in to Bush and his Republican robots is reflected in the October 18 San Diego Tribune-Reuters Poll in which White House Resident Bush's approval rating had descended to 24 percent while that of Congress had plummeted to 11 percent. Both figures constituted the lowest ever recorded in U.S. history.
