Congress Fails to Try and Stop Bush on War Despite Voter Mandate

"Regrettable though it may be, it should surprise no one that President Bush `clearly plans to keep fighting the pointless war until the last day in office.' Unfortunately, despite the 2006 congressional elections and the overwhelming anti-war sentiment among our citizens, as you state `Democrats have failed repeatedly to end the Iraq War or to substantially change its course.'"
Contrary to what Bush and his cohorts claim the U.S. is not safer. The Iraq War has triggered worldwide recruitment of terrorists and generated a sharp decline in U.S. prestige and influence.
Oliver de Messieres of Boyds, Maryland, in a letter to the New York Times on October 25, puts the blame for the Iraq War quagmire precisely where it belongs:
"It is lack of oversight by Congress that betrays our troops, our nation, and our allies."
Deborah K. Davis in her letter to the New York Times published October 24 vividly observed what the failed Republican leadership is up to now:
"The White House is ramping up its inflammatory rhetoric about Iran just as it did about Iraq in the days and months before invading that country.
"Congress has been deaf to the wishes of the American people and ineffective in reducing the United States' involvement in Iraq."
The delusion of empire building is nothing new. As far back as history is recorded, frightening facts demonstrate the rise to power of bloodthirsty butchers who want to rule the world and finally failed when their grandiose plans came crashing down, killing their own people in a blood bath demonstrating the futility of their grand delusions.
From Hannibal to Hitler we have seen it happen. Now with nuclear power back of grand delusions, it is time to stop and think before launching another deadly debacle launched for oil. As Alan Greenspan courageously and wisely wrote in his eye-opening book "Turbulent Times", oil was the reason behind the Iraq War.
The new film"Rendition" presents a balanced presentation of Islamic extremists' viewpoints followed by deadly bomb attacks. It also presents the U.S.A.'s treatment of terror suspects through kidnapping and interrogation, often resulting in torture.
The deadly delusions of Christian extremists who launched the crusades, claiming it was all in almighty God's plan, was a colossal failure. This tragic debacle, though happening centuries ago, lingers in the memories of the descendants' victims.
Could it be that the Iraq slaughter will linger in the minds of the victims' descendants, motivating them to revenge? An investigation should be launched into every detail of how the lies that launched the Iraq War got started and who is responsible. Full accountability must be demanded.
Instead the same leadership responsible for the Iraq War quagmire is itching to hit Iran and generate Cold War II with Russia. Continuing on the trail of such error can only generate terror!
