Political Cortex: Brain Food for the Body Politic

Well, if you ask folks like Dobson, Wildmon, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, in their warped minds homosexuals probably do cause global warming, the terrorists attacks of 9/11, and Hurricane Katrina.

As a gay man, who is also deeply involved in interfaith political action, I've been very excited to see evangelical Christians and other conservative religious folks becoming involved in issues like Global Warming, the Genocide in Darfur, and taking a stand against the war in Iraq. There are plenty of issues that can and do divide people who operate because of passion stirred by faith, but there are many more issues on which we can agree and which bring us together.

It is sad to see people like Wildmon and Dobson demanding the resignation of Richard Cizik, but it is not unexpected. Anything that brings the left and the right together must be seen as dangerous for those who want to keep us divided.

So - my call to act? Read the letter these folks sent to the NAE. If you happen to be an Evangelical Christian and a member of the NAE, write to the leadership to let them know how you feel. And, since folks like Wildmon and Dobson aren't members, even if you aren't a member of the NAE, consider writing to the NAE to express your opinion.

And..... if you have a few extra moments to spare, why not give Dobson and Wildmon's organizations a call and ask them why they are so obsessed with homosexuality. Me thinks they dost protest too much - how about you?
