Will Waging Perpetual War Bring Perpetual Peace? Email Print

David McClain of Seattle in the June 6 Seattle Times had this to say in a letter to the editors:

"Keeping the military machine in the Middle East is not in our best interest, as it radicalizes those who perceive us as an aggressive imperial force, serving no defensive purpose.

"If we want to wager perpetual war for perpetual peace, then by all means let's charge abroad and impose ourselves upon every corner of the globe.

"We'll go broke in the process and will be on high terror alert every day of our lives."

Why does it make any sense at all for White House resident George Bush to go to Germany for the G-8 Summit on Global Warming?

After refusing to go to the Kyoto globing warming conference, continually ignoring what global warming is doing to destroy life on planet earth, has George Bush been "born again"?

Has Bush faced the reality of increasing hurricanes, tsunamis, flooding droughts and famines?  No way!

This G-8 excursion is a propaganda pitch to improve his sagging opinion poll ratings.  In Britain Bush's buddy Tony Blair was shown on TV praising Bush for attending the G-8 Global Warming Summit.

But the reality is that George Bush has already announced that he is all for voluntary goals, which means, in effect, that nothing of any significance will take place but a flashy propaganda ploy.

Texas, Idaho and West Virginia are contributing mightily to the creation of greenhouses gases, with their use of coal to generate cheap electricity.

With the U.S. responsible for 50 percent of the pollution creating greenhouse gases, making goals voluntary rather than mandatory means that the U.S. is in essence doing nothing.

The economic vested interest are not going to sacrifice any of their ill-gotten gains unless there are strict laws demanding compliance, with heavy penalties if they dare defy such vital laws.

What a tragedy that the U.S.A., which at one time served as a beacon of enlightenment, has become a dollar-dedicated society with corporate panderers serving in elective office, bought and paid for by high-powered lobbyists who control them as puppets.

During the Reagan years the budget was never balanced and the national debt was tripled.  By the time Reagan's successor George H. W. Bush completed his single term of office the debt had been quadrupled.  Yet they named an airport after Reagan while the first Bush is hailed as a revered senior statesman.

If national debt is the determinant of who gets an airport named after him, George Bush with the biggest debt the U.S. ever accumulated prior to the arrival of George W. Bush should have many airports named after him with George W. Bush having the lion's share for his staggering contributions.  After all, under Bush's demented leadership we will soon be at the $10 trillion mark with no end in sight.

Bush's legacy will include scaring U.S. citizens with a false alarm, the threat of Saddam Hussein hurling his weapons of mass destruction at the United States.  Bush dramatically carried on with this warning by including it in a State of the Union Address.

The assembled Republican robots from the House and Senate leaped dramatically to their feet and gave Bush a resounding ovation.

Hugs and kisses accompanied by Colin Powell delivering his frightening UN address about the danger of a mushroom cloud enveloping America created a calculated chilling effect that resulted in the nation going to war against Iraq in a move clearly designed to wrest the nation's lucrative oil supply away from the dictator who was formerly the Republican Party's man in Baghdad, Saddam Hussein.

The resulting shock and awe assaults coupled with the aftermath of those early actions have resulted in 3,500 dead U.S. service personnel along with 55,000 injuries suffered by combatants and non-combatants.

According to a recent estimate one million Iraqis have lost their lives.  Another study revealed that four million Iraqis have been displaced as a result of a conflict that was launched on deceitful claims.

Hundreds of thousands Iraqis have marched, demanding an end to the U.S. occupation.

Nothing has stopped the Iraq War.  One of the largest U.S. embassies has been built in Iraq, a clear indication that Bush and those controlling him have no intention of leaving there.

After no accountability for his destructive actions Bush with his customary arrogance flies to Germany in Air Force One to the G-8 Global Summit.  His plane and another with a press entourage plus all those cars with guards protecting Bush exert an enormous amount of gas for the hot air and sinister cold war revival.

Mikhail Gorbachev made a rare TV appearance prior to the arrival of the Bush brigade.  Gorbachev said that all the work to have ended the Cold War is currently being undone.  Bush wants missile launching pads on Russian borders.

Bush declares that Russia is our friend, but that his "missile defense shield" is necessary and is designed to protect us from Iran and North Korea.

Gorbachev asserted that Bush's proposal, if implemented, could launch a new nuclear arms race.

Hasn't Bush caused enough trouble already?

Never was an impeachment action any riper than the present.
