U.S. Invades a Sovereign Nation -- Syria

"A deal to authorize the presence of American forces in Iraq beyond 2008 is forcing Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to choose between two influential powers in this country, the United States and Iran.
"U.S. officials had hoped Iraq would quickly approve the accord which would give American troops legal authority to remain in Iraq after December 31, when the mandate from the United Nations expires. But Iraqi political leaders have balked, in a sign that American political capital is waning as Iraq grows.
"'Maliki is in a dilemma. He cannot antagonize the Americans,' said Ghassan al-Attiyah, a prominent Iraqi intellectual and political analyst based at the Iraq Foundation for Development and Democracy in London.
Repeatedly, White House resident George Bush has proclaimed, "We want to bring democracy and freedom to Iraq." If that is true, why is it when the Iraqi people have been asked if they want the U.S. occupying forces to leave -- over 70% OF THE Iraqis have emphatically stated they definitely want U.S. forces to depart. Why haven't Iraqis been granted this democratic freedom?
It is provable that the Iraq War was launched on a series of well-orchestrated lies. The world knows exactly why the Iraq War was launched.
When asked the question if as a nation we are on the right track, only 9% of the U.S. public thinks so.
Credit Alan Greenspan, ex-fed chief, with possessing monumental courage and honesty, when in his memoir "Turbulent Times" he says the following on page 463 of his timely book, "I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq War is largely about oil."
If you don't agree consider the one-sided oil contract the U.S. has tried so desperately to get the Iraqis to sign.
The U.S. wants the Iraqis to agree to long-term leases of 63 of Iraq's 80 oil wells. That would leave Iraq in complete control of only 17 oil wells. Under Saddam Hussein the oil of Iraq was nationalized.
After 2 ½ million Iraqis have fled to Iran, Syria and Jordan, we now have the invasion of a sovereign nation like Syria.
How in God's name did the U.S. widen the war?
Eric Schmidt and Thom Shanker of the New York Times October 28 wrote the arguments used to justify invasion of a second Middle East nation -- Syria:
"A raid into Syria on Sunday by U.S. special operation forces killed an Iraqi militant responsible for smuggling weapons, money and foreign fighters across the border into Iraq, U.S. officials said Monday.
"In justifying the attack, U.S. officials said the Bush administration was determined to operate under the expansive definition of self-defense that provided a rationale for strikes on military targets in sovereign nations without their consent.
"Together with a similar U.S. commando raid into Pakistan more than seven weeks ago, the operation on Sunday appeared to reflect an intensifying effort by the Bush administration to find a way during its waning months to attack militants even beyond the borders of Iraq and Afghanistan."
Did it ever dawn on anyone in the U.S.A. that the Iraqis' outrage may well be legitimate? They were invaded when the U.S. was neither threatened nor invaded.
Iraq's infrastructure was demolished.
Saddam Hussein was said by the Elder Bush to be worse than Hitler. If that claim was true, why did the U.S. purchase oil from Iraq for many years while Saddam was in power? Why did we constantly supply Saddam with weapons to kill Iranians?
Having upset the population of Iran, Syria and Jordan, and with fleeing Iraqis, we have made enemies all over the Middle East!
During this 2008 election campaign McCain rants about losing the Iraq War. What in the name of God is this man talking about? When you break every international agreement the U.S. has signed with the Geneva Conventions on conducting war, how can you win a war when you have broken every international law going into the Iraq War?
If you, McCain, really believe in democracy, pay heed to the over 70% of Iraqis that ask the U.S. occupying forces to leave.
If you believe in fairness, let Iraqis control all 80 of their own oil wells, not a paltry 17.
Christian Dewar, writing in the Seattle Times October 26 in a Letter to the Editors said:
"It has been reported that the International Red Cross has been preparing dossiers on the leaders of our country who led us into this war in the event they are tried by the international criminal court.
"The current administration is said to be worried that if the Republicans lose this election there may be prosecutions for war crimes. The lawyers who secretly drafted the memos permitting torture are attempting to frame legislation to retroactively exonerate themselves in the event they are charged.
"Albert Einstein said, `It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare.'"
