Leverage in Iraq

Oddly enough, Obama's election gives us more leverage in Iraq.
When I first heard that the Iraqi's were content to have us remove our troops from Iraq, it didn't sound like good news. I envisioned Iraqi troops and policemen standing by while Badr militia killed Sunni guilty of warcrimes without benefit of trials, and protecting Shia who had committed crimes against Sunni. Eventually this would accomplish what Al Qaeda could not - make their terroists welcome as 'protectors' of Sunni.
Is this inevitable? No. I hope we will be thanking God that things turned out better than we deserved. Much depends on what the Iranians want to do. Obama may have a little leverage - some Shia still feel the need for US protection, and some Sunnis too. Many things we did there were good, our generals were smarter than our president.
Of course, I don't speak any languages native to Iraq, like most Americans and American politicians. It is much harder for us and our leaders to ferret out weaknesses in our intelligence than for the Iranians. The problem may be entirely different than I imagine. If a new counterawakening were in the works, we might be the last to know. If the Kurds are going to provoke the Turks into invading, we may have a different set of problems entirely.
