Answers to Sean Hannity, No. 15 Email Print

Mr. Hannity: The September 11 attack was "an attempt to decapitate our government." (p. 131)

My response: This is another neoconservative lie propagated to convince Americans that the terrorists hated freedom and democracy (a myth debunked in a previous number). Had the 9/11 attacks really constituted an attempt to extinguish our federal government, the terrorists would have struck the White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court building. Instead, they targeted the bastion of our military strength and the beehive of our commercial wealth.

The online Terrorism Knowledge Base classifies the World Trade Center as a business target and the Pentagon as a government target. Yes, the Pentagon is a government agency; however, it is not the seat of our government, but of our national defense. The partial damage which the Pentagon sustained failed to shut down or destroy our defense agencies. Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and most of our major defense personnel--not to mention President Bush, Vice President Cheney, all members of Congress, and all nine Supreme Court justices--conveniently survived the attack and are still with us today.

Cowardly terrorists who hated our government and orchestrated a grand scheme to crush it would not have allowed their most powerful enemies in the world to survive intact while focusing their main energy on bringing down the tallest skyscrapers in Manhattan.
