ABC: Apologize to the Nation and the World Email Print

The so-called debate presented in Philadelphia this week consisting of moderators George Stephanopoulous and Charlie Gibson substituted what should have been a serious analysis of the major topics facing America and the globe and substituted frivolity and absurdity, reducing the issue of presidential politics to a laughable side show.

The major issues were the ones that were not tackled at all.

People throughout the world would like to know what will be done about a war of occupation launched on provable lies, chiefly that Saddam Hussein must be stopped before he can wage nuclear war on America with weapons he did not possess, and that according to the respected British journal Lancet has documented that over 1.2 million Iraqi lives have been lost.

How about the U.S. debt that exceeds the amount of all of our previous debts combined?  How about the largest debt in the history of the planet that now exceeds $9.3 trillion as it approaches an astronomical $10 trillion figure?

How will such a massive debt impact upon the United States and its economic relationships throughout the world?

With what Doctor Feelgood Reagan referred to as part of the Evil Empire, the so-called Communist global menace, what about the possibility that China, to which we now owe so much, will choose to cash in its chips and own America?

How long can America consist in its current atmosphere of "create the current bubble" ala Alan Greenspan and then borrow frenziedly from the Chinese?  What is the ultimate result of such a policy of incredible folly?

As Bush represents a tap dancing burlesque buffoon more than a leader, what about the surrender of the Bill of Rights to the executive so that Americans can be spied upon at will without even needing to obtain a search warrant from a magistrate?

What happens when you sack the Constitution and proclaim this is being done to fight the war on terror?

How about when you sack the Geneva Conventions and grab citizens of the world through rendition, then follow up those grossly dictatorial acts by torturing them with impunity at Guantanamo?

Tell us Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney, has the Constitution been totally abandoned to fight your war on terror?

Speaking of the war on terror and 9/11, did we ever have an independent investigation of the events surrounding that unforgettable date?  Why have Bush and Cheney constantly opposed any kind of investigation into 9/11?

Why did they, even before a tribunal consisting of government insiders, insist on testifying in closed session?

Why did Bush insist on Cheney being present when that testimony was given?

Why were their respective testimonies never released to the American people?

How about the impact of globalization?  How many individuals have lost their jobs in the process of globalization's impact?

Of those who hold the jobs that have been tossed around like so many global hot potatoes, what kind of wages are these individuals receiving?  Are they livable under today's current standards?

What about the impact of global warming on society?  What do we do about global warming?

One commentator wrote that the questions asked by Stephanoupoulos and Gibson could  have been written by Sean Hannity.  It certainly appeared that way.

Why did the so-called debate have a Hannity feel to it?  Because Hannity and his colleagues at Fox Fixed News Republican Party Central know they can never elect a dog catcher much less a president on the real issues.

The Fox brigade thrives on tabloid gossip, which they gleefully substitute for serious political debate while ignoring issues that really matter.

Keep it going, Fox Republican propagandists!  Forget about the major problems surrounding Iraq, sacking the Bill of Rights and torturing prisoners, forget about America's stratospheric debt!

Let's hear about someone Obama knew who was with the Weathermen 40 years ago.

Let's hear a lot more about Reverend Wright!

Hillary appears comfortable in this element.  As long as she talks about Reverend Wright she does not have to confront problems such as her kowtowing to Bush and Cheney on the Iraq War and becoming partners with Joe Lieberman on the topic of quick military action against Iran.

Thank you, ABC, thank you George Stephanoupoulos and Charlie Gibson.  You owe America and the world an apology from turning what was supposed to be a presidential debate into a tabloid sideshow.

Bush's absurd tap dance is a symbol of what the mainstream corporate media and their neoconservative allies have in store for America and the world.

They offer bread and circuses, the same poisonous toxic formula that deluded the masses and helped precipitate the destruction of the Roman Empire.
