Who will be Held Accountable for the Iraq War? Email Print

"Bush could apologize for deceiving the American people into supporting a completely unnecessary war."

So says Ken Swenson of Pound Ridge, New York in an April 13 New York Times Letter to the Editors.

Swenson continued:

"Through these five years of senseless loss, I have yearned for a thorough analysis and recounting of the deceit and manipulation that brought us here.  A complete reckoning by Congress might force us all, even President Bush, to accept responsibility."

Cindy L. Harden of Brooklyn in her Letter to the Editors on that same day expressed her exasperation with the American public's lack of concern with the horrifying Iraq War.

She stated:

"To those of us who spoke out against the war and have marched, protested and voted to end this disaster ... we now see the band-aid approach of the surge is no longer effective as the violence continues and the number of Americans killed increases once again.

"Yet, President Bush continues to insist that we will succeed and victory (whatever that means) will be our.  Our voices have been ignored, and the war appears to be endless."

As the victimized U.S. public sees its economy and dollar value crumbling the beginning of the horrifying cost of the Iraq War debacle might give them a frightening glimpse of the future.

shall be held accountable for the INVASION AND OCCUPATION of Iraq.  What's happening in Iraq is not now nor has it ever been a "war".
Any person with even the most minimal level of awareness would have known from the start that the propaganda leading to the invasion of Iraq was just that.  That country was in a shambles.  It had been decimated by Desert Storm and twelve years of sanctions which made it all but impossible for even food and medicine to get into the country let alone materials for building or maintaining weapons of mass destruction.  Scott Ritter made it perfectly clear that there was no case for war with Iraq.  Anyone who cared to pay the least attention to the available information would have known beyond doubt that Bush, Rice, Cheney, Powell and the rest of that cabal were lying through their teeth.  They weren't interested in anything other than conquest and we the people, in our willful ignorance and consumer delirium, offered them no real resistance.
After all, we're Americans!  We can do anything we damn well please!  If you don't like it here why don't you go live somewhere else?
These are the people who are accountable for the destruction of Iraq and the murder of a million innocent Iraqis.  They are also accountable for the American and global economic collapse and, ultimately, the climate disaster we now face.
Fortunately for the planet the extinction event currently underway will probably eliminate the parasite known as the human race and restore the balance and symbiosis that existed before its appearance.
Most sincerely,
R.W. Posner
