Zimbabwe is a Cause for Global Outrage!

Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Anan has delivered similar comments as the carnage continues, in a nation where what the international community hoped would be a democratic election, to violence on the part of Mugabe's well trained and ruthless police.
Rather than holding a runoff between Mugabe and the candidate that appeared to be favored by most of the citizenry, the individual who should instead be preparing to govern Zimbabwe following a democratic election runoff instead was compelled to seek refuge in the Dutch Embassy in the capital city of Harare.
While Mugabe has enriched himself and become a billionaire most of his countrymen live at or perilously near the starvation point.
Zimbabwe's president drove the opposition candidate to the shelter of the Dutch Embassy after his always active police force launched an attack on the opposition party's headquarters. The message was short and blunt - cease and desist or your lives will be lost!
In the past Mugabe's minions have reacted to peaceful political protest and general opposition by either killing or setting ghoulish examples to the citizenry by cutting off limbs of those they feel have strayed too far, threatening the power base of a ruthless dictator with an insatiable lust for preserving power at all costs.
It is time for the international community to act in the manner that concerted action occurred in the eighties, when the dictatorial regimes of the Duvalier family, father and ultimately son, was curtailed in Haiti and the oppressive, self-aggrandizing dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines was terminated.
As the British historian Lord Acton stated with succinct eloquence, "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing."
At a time when the continent of Africa faces numerous challenges en route to developing a new footing in the wake of long periods of colonial rule, there could be no better time than now for the world community to rise up against a pattern of murder, enslavement, butchery and economic gluttony at the expense of an impoverished citizenry.
It is time to say enough to Robert Mugage!
It is time to tell him that your murder and brutality will not prevail!
