Al Gore's Ten Year Energy Challenge

We have been getting our oil from the Middle East and now will we get our solar panels from there too because we in this country are so myopic and politically polarized to the point that we cannot even concede one damn point? The alternate energy market is just waiting for a boom in this country. Employment in this country would soar and with investment, we would get the economic shot in the arm we need to avoid economic collapse while saving ourselves. Many say (even people in his own party) that Mr. Gore made this proposal at the wrong time with gas prices being so high... to that I say, WHAT?
This was the absolute right time to come out and tell people the truth that they are being lied to and duped by big oil and coal. This was exactly the right time to come out and tell people that they have a CHOICE and that they have the power in this next decade to put those choices into motion. That they have other options for energy that can be cheaper than what they are using now. Of course the oil and coal companies and special interests and their minions are not too happy about that, but I say, screw them. They have done more harm to this planet and economy with their pollution and wars than any alternate energy being instituted could do. It is time for them to see that their way is not the best way for the continued sustainability of this planet and work to make amends for what they have done.
The Earth as it stands now is going through changes in climate that are too exacerbated to just be natural and the cost of ignoring it far exceeds the cost of implementing changes to avoid it. What price do you put on a human life? That has been confirmed by the IPCC, NASA, the National Academy of Sciences, The Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, and thousands of other studies and scientists' reports from around the globe. It is a known fact also that for YEARS scientists in possession of these facts have been gagged by our government to keep quiet about it, because the very thing Mr. Gore stated must be done is something they don't want to do because they believe it will ground their gravy train.
This is nothing more than politically partisan, greedy, manipulative asses in Washington DC standing in the way of the progress we now must make to save this Earth from climate catastrophe. Now, that catastrophe, or "sixth degree" as it was depicted by National Geographic may not come for at least fifty more years, but that is fifty years when my child will still be here and I as well if I live into my nineties, and perhaps even his own children. However, as usual political partisans and those who simply just don't want to change because they believe it would be too much trouble for them in their comfortable lives will do anything to fight that change.
The bottomline is: the population of this world is expanding to a point where we will not have enough resources to support human life. Our oceans are already on the whole acidified to a critical level, and that is the key to this in the breaking down of other species that will over time lead to the break down of our own if we continue on this same path...And regardless of how long that may take to happen, do we not have a MORAL obligation to leave this planet better than as we found it? THAT should really be the overriding principle here. Not the petty BS nitpicking about $$$$$$$$$$$$. Hell, the very same Conservative political hacks who would tear Mr. Gore's every word down are the same jackasses who blindly followed Bush's lies into Iraq at the expense of more money and lives than it would take to do this!
Australia hopes to have solar running their country by 2030. Countries in Africa poorer than we could ever be are looking to install solar power. Even China which I criticize for its involvement in the Sudan and its degradation of our environment and its own country through the use of coal is looking more to solar and wind. America is once again poised to lead the way on something that will not only change the course of history, but may well preserve it. I then am not about to sit around and argue the same points about the fact that we can't do this or shouldn't do this. I'm going to do it because I see the advantages to the planet I love and the family I love.
The media treatment of Mr. Gore's words is also once again lackluster and biased on the whole. Instead of embracing them with excitement that someone had the guts to propose something apart from what we get from this corrupted, good ole boy, stuck in the mud Congress and political system, they once again did what they always do: Play up to their sponsors and political influences over truly educating and enlightening the people while sparking in them a vision to go farther than the mediocre status quo that has done nothing but keep us down. I say it is time for that BS to end.
Al Gore's proposal (regardless of what you think of his personal life, his politics, his companies, or anything to do with him) was bold and it challenges our imaginations to look beyond the mediocre status quo to give future generations a better life. And I support it and will do all I can to help us get there.
