Danger in the Killer God Belief

However, last night in reading Robert Wright's article in the June 15 Time Magazine edition, "De-Coding God's Changing Moods", I was so horrified with the very first paragraph that I couldn't have a peaceful sleep all night long.
I read more than once Robert Wright's first paragraph, which both startled and deeply depressed me. Wright wrote as follows:
"The ancient Israelites got straightforward guidance from scripture on how to handle people who didn't worship Israel's God, Yahweh, 'You shall annihilate them -- the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebsuites -- just as the Lord your God has commanded.'"
My view of such a killer God is a barbaric concept of Almighty God is blasphemy. Any such horrendous depiction of a killer God telling any group of people to kill all those who fail to worship as they do, represents ultimate evil, to my way of thinking.
To think of individuals believing in such a killer God being in charge of the universe is as frightfully fiendish as any Hollywood horror movie spectacle.
Could the Christian Crusades' horrifying killing spree have been motivated by such alleged godly counsel, allegedly given the ancient Israelites to kill all those who didn't worship as they did?
Christian fundamentalists believe every word of both the Old and New Testament is divinely inspired. They conveniently ignore what some have claimed, 30,000 contradictions in these so-called books.
Wright's article continued:
"The Bible isn't the only scripture with such vacillations between belligerence and tolerance. Muslims, who like Christians and Jews worship the God who revealed Himself to Abraham, are counseled in one part of the Koran to 'kill the polytheists wherever you find them.' But another part prescribes a different stance toward unbelievers, 'To you be your religion; to my religion.'"
You'd think the Abrahamic God would make up His mind. Can he live with other Gods or not?
What's with the random mood fluctuations?
Adolf Hitler's political agenda included the annihilation of all the people the Nazi regime designated to die.
Genocide, no stranger to ancient religions, was resurrected in modern times with Hitler's Nazi regime.
World War Two, which followed, ended with 50 million dead, and much of Europe in shambles. One might think that such a devastating death toll would end genocide. No way! Genocide goes on today in Darfur.
After the Iraq War, where the U.S. invaded Iraq on the false fear of being threatened with weapons of mass destruction that existed only in George Bush's call to arms State of the Union rant. Iran and North Korea are now busily engaged in what they insist is defending themselves against facing a similar fate as Iraq.
Religious wars have killed millions, and with the roots of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in ancient times linked to a killer God giving orders to kill those who don't worship as these major religions do, we have something to consider.
George Bush in his last whirlwind trip to Europe was trying to get Poland and Czechoslovakia to agree to placing rockets on their borders with Russia. Naturally that stirred up Putin and Russia. France has intervened, saying this provocative missile placement could stir up the Cold War all over again.
Do we really need that?
The last thing this world needs now is resurrecting barbaric killing agendas from ancient religions.
Haven't enough people died in World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and now the Iraq War, the longest in U.S. history, and the Afghanistan War that we should take time out to attempt to negotiate an end to the perpetual war syndrome?
The war machine mentality has us locked into the war treadmill!
Eisenhower wisely warned against letting the military-industrial complex lead the way.
We can see what death and destruction it has brought us, with no light at the end of this dark tunnel.
